I've been following the Occupy Wall Street movement these last couple of weeks. I find it amazingly inspirational, and I hope it'll open people's eyes to the many injustices of the world we live in

I've been loving OWS even if the Atlanta arm is as usual a little ineffective and full of the same folks who take over every protest and don't want to listen to more moderate voices. (It took them 90 minutes to decide they should stop drumming at 1 am. There are folks who live right near the park they're in, so.)
I really wish everyone here had the kind of health care you do there. There would be a lot fewer problems if so. Like people wouldn't be in pain from dental work they can't have done and stuff. There's also a lot of rhetoric here about how it's ~class warfare~ for the 99% to be mad at the 1%. Gimme a break! They're the ones doing the class warfare, not us! Then there's the usual ~evil socialists, communists, anti-Americans~ nonsense.

What I find the most inspiring about this movement is the fact that people from all across the political spectrum are involved and occupying. I see just as many #ows tweets from people who believe in a capitalist society that I do from people who are more left-leaning/socialist. THAT's democracy, and it's absolutely beautiful. I'm sorry you have to deal with drumming fools, but I hope you're able to see past that and work with them. Because you should. Of course they should also see how big of a deal this is, and work with whomever shows up.
Yeah, funny you should mention dental work, because dentistry is actually not included in our health care deal. And people do suffer from that. Dentists are expensive and most students choose to have teeth pulled than get them fixed. Because it's cheaper. That's completely fucked up. You might remember that I have a porcelain crown (I broke my front teeth back in primary school). Thankfully, because that happened during school hours, it's registered as a "workplace accident", so all the work I've

Thank-you for this. I have a huge rant typed up that I wasn't sure if I was going to post on this because I saw a rather upsetting person basically saying "I worked hard for what I have, why can't you?" And it's just alsdnfakjsnfak I HATE people who don't take in to account any of the privileged they have in life.
Oh, please post your rant! I mean, I might just have the wrong kind of LJ friends, but there's been pretty much NO talk of #ows on my friendslist at all, and I find that kind of... strange. I realise not everyone's into politics and such, but still.
Don't get me wrong. This wasn't the event that made me realise that I'm privileged, I know, and I'm thankful, and I work to keep my rights - because believe it or not, there are people here who'd rather privatise everything, because they want health care to be a ~choice~ and not a right.
It's weird though, in my head I'm still a poor student. I use money very carefully, and am equally shocked every time I get my pay check. I feel guilty about the money I earn.
*hugs* Thank you for this. I've been vocal on facebook and in person but LJ seems to be superquiet about it all. I need to write something up but honestly it all depresses me SO SO MUCH (especially the counter group "53%") that I can't even talk about it without feeling nervous, overwhelmed and panicked that we actually may be screwed. I feel powerless, lost, hopeless... it's so very terrifying on a daily basis going to work, happy to work my rear off if only I were able but with no hope of earning enough to pay my bills and though looking for a job daily, unable to get a single interview. Not because I don't qualify for positions but because there are simply too many of us fighting for the same job and I cannot dream of competing for work designed for people of my education level that is applied for by people two, three, four times overqualified. People with 20 years experience who should be my bosses' bosses but instead are taking entry level work. Master degree+ holders desperate to feed themselves, too, that they'll take anything

♥ I don't know what to say. Of course you have my support. We're all in this together, that's what it's all about. That's what we need to convince the people who refuse to tax their wealth!

I just discovered the 53% counter group yesterday, and I'm absolutely sickened by it. Thankfully there are also plenty of people like this http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/post/11524309540 .
Don't give up, keep fighting for your rights. The whole world is watching~
