Working on my third obligatory assignment~ This has been the most entertaining text so far, but I'm afraid it needs a lot of work. We're currently learning about theme, rheme, and cohesion, and it's all a bit greek to me, but I'll get there somehow. Anyway the challenge with this text is that it's a massive blob of text. I was going to correct some of the sentences down to shorter sentences, but then I read that that was a stylistic choice on the part of the author. Never mind then. This will mostly just be answers to when you ((suggest)) stuff.

I would choose "is all gone now" over "has all been spent now..." don't ask, it just 'sounds' better to me.

I'd also choose "every" over "good" when talking about reason to be upset. Again, it's just the flow.

I saw it at some film club sounds better.

They remind me of sickness is better.

Everyone and his brother sounds better too. That country sounds like a helluva place! But then America is pretty odd too if you really examine us and our traditions a little further.

So I don't understand some of the references you explained later, but that's just a matter of an "injoke" really. You did a great job. I 'get' the point of the text better--it's fun and rambling and very stream-of-consciousness. Great fun!

PS: I am going to be better about helping you out with these--I had fallen behind, I know.

Still not sure if I should try to re-structure the information chunks. My textbook keeps telling me that it's impossible to make a text sound natural in the target language if you copy the cohesive devices of the source text so ahahhaha. Then again our textbook doesn't mention Scandinavian languages all that much... maybe in this case the Norwegian and English structures are similar enough to make it work? I DUNNOOOOO *rambles* :DDD We had a shorter homework text for today where it's obvious that the cohesive devices used in Norwegian become incredibly ambiguous and hard to follow if translated directly into English... which is interesting, since I didn't get the same kind of problems with this Facts About Finland text D: It's making me nervous about this obligatory assignment, haha ( ... )
