THE PINK☆PANDA Music Musings

I can't believe I've been this slow to follow up on news of my favourite quirky Japanese all girls band T_T What kind of a fan am I? Back in 2007 I got really into THE PINK☆PANDA. I bought their entire discography during my stay in Japan (which at that point was one album, one mini-album, and three maxi-singles). I transcribed lyrics, thought about ( Read more... )

I have never listened to Jpop before, but judging by just the pictures - I like the original Pink Panda's better than the "new proctuct". I guess it's also all about what sells, right?

Gacharic Spin (Pink Panda's old bassist's new band) is still working independently, they aren't signed to any major record labels, and it shows. They get to do their own thing, and they have an interesting look. It's sad to see that the old Pink Panda has been streamlined into a more mainstream look. BLiSTAR doesn't really appeal to me image-wise, but I want to give them a chance anyway, since I know where they come from and how awesome they can be.

I'm kind of glad Koga decided she didn't want to be a part of BLiSTAR. I totally understand and back her decision. Selling out isn't worth it if you have to give up doing things your own way. Must have been really weird for her to leave her old band mates <,<;; I still wonder if there were lots of behind the scenes drama in connection with her decision to leave :x She never mentions her old band members in her current blog... so it makes you wonder.

Baah the music industry *shakes fist* XDDD

There's nothing to be sad/happy about I think. You know how Japanese bands are always changing because that's just how the market is. Plus, you kinda got to see the two paralell universes where in the first the became more grown up-ish while the other band tried to keep the spirit of the original band. I must confess I had never heard of any of these bands tho, hehehe.

I usually don't mind when a band changes image or goes with a different sound (that's just how things go in the music industry), but I've never followed a band through the process of going from an indies label to a major one. They obviously had to change their name and stuff in order to be able to do this.. I thought it was very exciting but was extremely annoyed when they seemingly disappeared off of the face of the earth without a single clue as to how they'd be "reborn". It felt good to find them again, because I was generally curious to what the move to a major label would mean for them. Plus they are awesome artists xD Or at least were before they became BLiSTAR. I'll have to pick up their mini-album before I say too much about their new music style :p ( ... )
