•••••
Midnight. Christmas.
Jun glanced at the clock for the hundredth time that night, wondering what his former lover was doing, who he was with, where he would be. Jun shook himself. Sho's whereabouts and who he chose to be with at any given time were hardly his concern.
He had Aiba now. Sweet, bright, warm Aiba.
Wasn't that enough?
12:05
Apparently not, Jun thought, tearing his eyes from the clock and absentmindedly turning his phone over in his pocket.
A clatter came from the direction of the kitchen. Jun just shook his head and prayed Aiba hadn't broken anything. Should've known better than to let Aiba prepare Christmas drinks. Sweet, bright, warm Aiba was also klutz Aiba.
The call of "everything's fine!" paired with the dazzling smile and mop of brown hair around the corner did very little to reassure Jun that everything was, in fact, fine, but Aiba'd insisted that he be in charge of festivities that night. And Jun was weak to Aiba kisses and smiles and touches and....Aiba's everything.
12:08
Jun flipped open his phone to stare at the screen blankly. He should text Sho. Just say Merry Christmas. That was normal, wasn't it?
He closed the phone with a sharp snap. No, that wasn't normal. Normal was drinking butterscotch schnapps and hot chocolate with his boyfriend, not obsessively wondering about the person who gave him up ages ago. It was long over between them. Sho had obviously moved on.
When would Jun?
12:10 and Aiba finally came into the living room with a tray of steaming mugs, tiny marshmallows dancing across the rich brown surface of the beverages. Several beheaded reindeer cookies perched between the two mugs.
Jun raised an eyebrow before reaching for a mug. "Beheaded?" he asked.
Aiba just giggled and took a sip from his steaming cup.
12:30
Aiba's mouth tasted like butterscotch and marshmallows and chocolate and sunshine and something sweeter than all of that combined.
Jun couldn't shake the memory of the sweet tang of brandy against his palate. Never again, he told himself. He couldn't do that ever again.
His lips captured Aiba's, stealing his smile.
04:17
Aiba's breath fluttered gently against Jun's chest. Jun fought the tears. He lost.
"I wonder if Sho's awake..."
