This was something a friend of mine stumbled upon over on deviantart and sent to me.  It makes some great points that I want this spread around and known to prevent Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu hunting from showing up on our community (it hasn't thankfully all of you wonderful, respectful member, you! XD)  and maybe others.

It's something I've been meaning to ask for a long, LONG time... what is a Mary Sue, reading a bit of this I get some idea but I don't know the concept and seen it in comments many times.

A 'Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu' is an OC that is allegedly based off of yourself as a way of putting yourself in any one of your fanfictions. I say allegedly because as the article states, these terms have such broad generalizations that practically any character you make, even if they are completely opposite yourself, is a Mary-Sue or Gary-Stu. You can't win.

And I dislike when I put alot of thought into a character and i get
OH GOD STOP THE MARY-SUENESS PLEASE!

It's a little insulting and very disrespectful. Instead of accusing me of having a Mary Sue, maybe mention why you don't like the character in the first place, and then send suggestions on how I can improve the character.

That is what we are looking for in a review. Even the ones filled with encouragement are nice ^^

But that is the baseline of a Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu.

Yes it did help.

But that's awful! People should have more respect for other people's work! If they don't like it then it's not like it's being shoved down their throat! Or forced to read! Hmft *is feeling indignant*

Which is why I posted this. I want to stop the 'witch hunt' so to speak before it starts, not that I think it will.

We have some really good people here, but I want others to be aware.

So pass this around to your friends here and on other communities or not.
