A point of clarification

This is to do with the challenge.

But first, a big thank you to the community to those who have contibuted so far! I'm very happy to be seeing all the wonderful works of literature (and future hopeful) art.

However a matter I should have addressed earlier has come to my attention. If one member puts more than one entry of theirs into the competition ( Read more... )

Hmm I had not thought of that... Maybe you could let the writers decide which of their entry they would like to enter the competition?

I was thinking of that too...but I'm not sure. I feel like a pathetic mod now for not spotting this potential problem before.

i think entrants should be limited to one piece for the vote. anything more than that creates an unfair situation for everyone involved, as you've already realized. anyone who's already entered more than one piece can be notified and asked which piece to put into the contest and their other pieces can just be considered general challenge pieces.

I agree with eerian-sadow - have the entrants pick one piece, or go with your idea of voting by the member, no matter how many pieces they've put in the contest.

Either option seems fair to me.

*hangs head* I'm greedy and competitive, I'm sorry.

If you go the route of letting the authors decide which piece to enter, you'll have to wait until the end of the challenge for them to choose, because they might think they've done an awesome piece in Week 1, and then in Week 3, write one that they think is better.

Plus, I'm also paranoid that people think that automatically writing something for the challenge puts them in the competition, where you stated it didn't.

Either way, I don't mind what you do... I'm just actually kinda happy to be writing and posting again without worrying too much about nasty comments.

NO! Don't feel bad, in fact, I was feeling bad about PM-ing you and letting you know that you might have to choose only one. I'm really thankful for your contibutions *glomps*

And I think I may be doing that. I think I'll get each author to PM me their entry on the 30th of October. (When I actually post the changes to the rules).

I don't think I'd thought through the competition aspect of it, I just wanted to have anything I wrote be considered because I like people voting on which ones best.

I think I'd post whatever changes you decide to make once you've made them, so people are aware of them. That also gives them chance to think about what they're writing etc.

Perhaps when the challenge ends, you can ask the authors to submit their competition entry piece in a comment with a link to the relevant post?
