I remember when that first came out. Totally amazing at what you can do with a wiimote. Too bad more console games don't utilize this technology.
I've been wanting a TrackIR for quite some time now to play my flight sims with. I really just need to bite the bullet and get it. It's going to make the experience FAR more immersive. Granted, it doesn't give you the same true 3d experience, but for what it is, I think it's grand.
Trackers usually come in two flavors.. 3DOF (3 degrees of freedom) and 6DOF. The idea is, if you get rotation, you don't get position. And Vice-versa. 6DOF trackers are usually magnetic-field based, and super expensive.
Anyway, any head tracker at all greatly enhances the experience. I used to work in the field of immersive visualization, and by far the most important component was the flock of birds tracker system from Ascension. More so even than the 3d-projection equipment / CAVE.
