I've been mistaken for American a couple of times, which is bizarre. I use the long 'a'! I pronounce 'Sir Lancelot had a bath in the castle' as 'Sir Larncelot had a barth in the carstle', when I have occasion to say it, which is admittedly not too often. And that may not even convey what I mean to you, because apparently most American accents pronounce 'r's where my accent just changes the preceding vowel sound.
