Ooh, tell me all about your problems with Final Fantasy XIV! (I hadn't realised it was going to be online.)

Well, really, my biggest problem with it is that it is going to be online. I do not want another MMO (read: more monthly fees? Nooooo), but it looks pretty, and I know FFXI is incredible (but extremely problematic in places, but SE says they've been working on fixing that for this) so of course I will want to at least check it out. And probably get attached to my character there. And then keep playing. I am also somewhat worried most of the people I know in XI may quit and move on to the new one. (I am somewhat worried I will quit and move on to the new one...) Also, getting stuck in another fandom that the majority of people I know don't participate in, and that most of them don't particularly care to hear about, is not high on my list of priorities. (In my experiences, even most players of other Final Fantasy games do not play or care to hear much of anything about FFXI.) (I am not trying to come as as whiny or pathetic there. It just gets a bit annoying at times to when something really awesome happens and ninety percent of people ( ... )

I thought that might be it; when I saw the trailer and realised it was online, my first thought was 'noooo, does this mean that Square will be abandoning Vana'diel?'

THAT'S RIGHT: I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF A GAME I DO NOT EVEN PLAY. It is all because of you!

Also, getting stuck in another fandom that the majority of people I know don't participate in, and that most of them don't particularly care to hear about, is not high on my list of priorities.

I SHALL CARE TO HEAR ABOUT IT. JUST SO YOU KNOW.

Well, the good news there is that, with two more mini-expansion sets known to be on the way, and the most recent full expansion still not fully available, they've clearly got at least a little more in store for us. So no need for concern yet! (Do not believe the forum predictions. If you ask them, the game has been dying with no new expansions coming out EVEN AGAIN at least since the second one came out back in 2004, and we're now up to four, plus the three mini-sets, so, yeah...)

GOOD, because when it comes out and I pick it up to try it out, I will undoubtedly make entirely too many posts about it (starting with I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO TURN ON COMPACT KEYBOARD CONTROLS SO I CAN'T MOVE BUT MAN THIS IS AWESOME).

They haven't got an official release date yet, but sometime next year is the current plan. (I still think you should come back to try FFXI again sometime, though! XP)
