Who: Severus Snape, Martha Jones, James Kirk, Open What: Just being a kid. When: Day 47. Multiple threads throughout the day are welcome. Where: Outside, generally running around and being a geeky little wizard kid.
It was in the afternoon and Martha Jones was currently outside. She'd been sitting in the house and had been trying to be good, but the view of the snow outside the windows had driven her out. There had been little snow in London, but it had never looked like this did. This looked like the snow that was in every movie ever, and Martha Jones wanted to go outside and play in it.
Eventually she'd found a pink jacket and scarf and she'd head outside to play in it. The snow was up to seven-year-old Martha's knees, and she dropped into it quickly, the first thing she did was making a snow angel. Feeling rather adventurous, (She knew that this place wasn't dangerous, she wasn't sure how, she just knew it. Her mum and Dad and Leo and Tish were around somewhere) Martha ventured across the street and towards the park.
She'd always wanted to slide down the slide when it was covered with snow, and now was her chance to do it!
Severus was already there, doing a lot of loitering. He was still holding out some hope that Lily was here somehow, and if she was, she'd come to the park. He knew it. Of course, he didn't want to look like he'd been waiting around if she did show up, and since there didn't appear to be any adults around (slightly worrying), he was currently brandishing his new wand, pretending to cast spells he didn't yet know.
At Martha's approach, he did what any reasonable budding young wizard would do when approached by someone who might or might not be a Muggle or authority figure: he hid the wand behind his back. Unfortunately, at eleven, he had not yet mastered the fine art of "Act Natural".
"Hi!" Martha said brightly when she saw that there was someone else at the park. She grinned at him and walked over quickly, having seen the end of the show that he had been preforming with what appeared to be a stick.
When he hid the wand behind his back, Martha inclined her head a bit, watching him. "Why are you hiding your stick?" Her voice was bright and happy but a bit confused. "Don't worry, I won't take it from ya. I'm Martha! What's your name?"
He took a step back from her, concerned now that he might get in trouble. She called it stick; she was probably a Muggle and the Ministry of Magic was going to have him arrested or expelled - or tell his father.
But she didn't seem to be afraid, and...well, there hadn't been adults all day. She couldn't be more than six or seven; she was just a little kid with big ears.
He cautiously mumbled, "Severus."
It didn't occur to him this early on in life that lying about his name might be a good idea, but it did occur to him that he had one of the absolute worst names on earth. It was better than being called "that Snape kid" or "oi, you", though.
Jim was familiar with snow--it blanketed their Iowan farmhouse often enough in the winter. So when he woke to the familiar play of light reflecting off of it, he thought no more of the strange location than that it was time to go outside and take advantage of it. So he did, pulling his boots on and tramping off into the snow. He would worry about his family later--a happy child, he had a tendency to assume things would work out all right in the end.
There was a dark-haired boy outside, older than he by a few years, and without the least suspicion Jim ran up to him.
Whereas the other children seemed to have the benefit of appropriate winter wear, Severus was relegated to his own little world of strange, ill-fitting clothes and shoes poorly suited to snow. This, of course, was normal for him and he didn't mind.
Much.
Being approached - at high speed, no less - by a younger boy he didn't know startled him. He looked around to see if perhaps said boy had been talking to someone else, but no, they were alone.
Awkwardly (and a bit warily, truth be told) he replied, "Hello."
What...is that on Kirk's head? D:emptyyourselfDecember 28 2010, 18:39:32 UTC
After some hesitation, he replied, "Severus." Unfortunately, there was no getting around his name; he was sort of stuck with it.
He looked the younger boy over and decided he probably wasn't going to do him any harm.
"Did you live here?" He motioned in the general direction of the boarding house. Maybe Jim could explain how he'd managed to wind up here instead of his own room.
