It was better when the sun began to set, though it was also a toss-up whether the light or the radio he couldn't turn off were worse. Jim finally ventured outside after dinner, nearly tripping over Martha in the process. It took only a moment to take in the tableau, and Jim sank next to her gratefully with a groan.

"You read my mind," he said. "Mind some company?"

Martha smiled when she saw Jim, and she quickly passed over the bottle before he had even said that she had read his mind. "I don't believe that I did; I'm having a hard enough time attempting to read my own mind today." There was a happy little drunken giggle in her tone, and quickly she gestured to the seat next to her. Well, the place on the porch step next to her.

"I never mind your company, Jim love. How are you feeling?"

The bottle, but no glass--Jim didn't mind, if Martha didn't. He didn't think he had anything catching, and it was far too much trouble to go back into the house.

"Right, I forgot that's not a hypothetical question at this point," he said, easing down next to her and feeling ancient. "I feel terrible," he confessed. He raised the bottle to his lips, tipping back. "Better now, though."

"No, but it would be nice if it was, yeah?" Thankfully, whatever was going around at the moment wasn't being added to what Martha was already experiencing as an after effect of using the abilities that she had been given.

When he said that he was feeling terrible, Martha wordlessly offered him part of her blanket. The feeling had settled into her bones, all cold and harsh and sharp.
