:: Evil Does Well
What defines a villain for you? Why? His motive. The reason why he does things. It's always important to understand what drives that need to be cruel, to torture and/or kill. It's the reason that makes him keep going, without fail, because as long as he has that, no amount of logic or emotion can stop him. He'll keep going because he has the only facts he needs: his own.

What is the best back-story (past) a villain can have, and why? Hmm... something tragic, but not emo. Okay, in other words, having him being some sort of good person, or that he could've have BEEN a normal person, until some sort of loss or traumatizing experience turned the wheel to such a point that he is not only NOT innocent, but he resents innocence, and believes there's no such thing.

What should be a villain's perfect weapon, and why? His mind. Not his body or ability to fight, because tie him up and take away physical weapons, and then he's useless, but if he has a mind to manipulate, haunt and taunt, he is good to go. He should be VERY smart too. The best psychopaths are the ones with a highly functioning brain.

What is the appropriate weakness for the ultimate villain, and why? Their own logic. When their logic is turned/used against them, they're screwed. I mean, if he's a real villain, it won't be easy to play at their emotions (doubtful they have any), but challenge their logic, make them actually see that what they're doing is not necessarily wrong, but useless and weak, and then you're playing with their logic. A taste of their own medicine, if you will.

:: The Evils of the World
Name a few of your favorite literary/t.v./movie villains: Hannibal Lecter (Books, Silence of the Lambs), Sylar (T.V., Heroes), Michael (T.V., Stargate Atlantis), The Joker (The Movie, The Dark Knight), John/Satan (Movie, The Prophecy: Uprising & The Forsaken), Louis/Lucifer (Book, Requiem for the Devil), Belial (Manga, The Tarot Cafe), The Master (T.V., Doctor Who *New Seasons*), Early (T.V., Firefly), Adria (T.V., Stargate SG1)
Choose one (of the mentioned above) villain and explain why he's the perfect villain: Oh, Hannibal Lecter, hands down. I adore him as a villain because he is NOT a bad guy. He is perfectly well-mannered, he is brilliant, educated, the perfect gentleman, and he's also the perfect killer because he is methodical. He's not careless and he doesn't do it because he can. He does it because he takes pleasure in killing those he considers a waste in society, those who are rude, and those who directly cross him. He not only kills them, but he eats them, relishes the act as some sort of prize. It's not a simple game to him, but his nature, one that he has accepted and considered to be a near-art. The man is eerily sane, and that is what makes a killer good.

:: This or That
Works Alone or Leads an Army? Works alone, because he doesn't think anyone would understand or share his motives.
Angry or Numb? Numb on the outside. To show anger would be a weakness, could lead to mistakes, to appear numb gives you an advantage, doesn't give you away.
Capable of Love or Incapable of Love? He should be very capable of it, actually, to the point that he either kills that which he loves (and makes him weak) or asks her to join him, but he would never change for her.
Eerily Sane or Completely Insane? Eerily sane
Blood-hungry or Revenge-Seeking? Hmm... tough. Blood-hungry would mean an obsession that can't be controlled and revenge-seeking is an emotion that could make you sloppy, but if he's smart enough, he could be revenge-seeking without being careless.
God-complex or Problem with Authority? Problem with authority. He's not crazy enough to think himself a God (hell, it'd be better if he doesn't think there IS one).

:: The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions
The villain of your story once belonged to a 'happy' family, until something happens, and they're dead. What do you think happened? Hmm... maybe someone in the family goes nuts and kills them all, he witnesses it, and tries to kill the person as a last resort to protect himself (and maybe another surviving relative?), but fails. Years later, he learns, he was the killer (whoa, I broke my brain with the psychoanalysis of that one).

The villain of your story falls in love with a girl, but another man claims her (being richer and better). What do you think this does to him? It angers him to the point where he uses his passive-aggressiveness to take revenge. He doesn't do anything to her directly, but does a lot of things to him (indirectly) to bring him to ruin and basically attacks his character through other channels to the point where the man is worthless. The man begins taking it out on the girl, who hasn't left him in spite of, and that's when the Villain kills him (realizing that his actions didn't cause her to leave, only caused her to get beat on), but he doesn't pursue her after that. He just lets her be part of his past, like everything else.

The villain of your story had been holding a woman ransom - occasionally torturing her - and for some reason, when someone's about to kill him, she stops them. What should be his reaction? Amusement. Curiosity. But other than that, not much. He doesn't think her stupid, such a thought would be rude and insulting. He'll simply feel amused at the fact that this woman is willing to protect him in spite of what he's done (and will continue to do) to her, and feels curiosity as to what her motives are. There's nothing a Villain likes more than a mental challenge, something that is not easily solved.
