Fic - Warmth and Sunlight

Feb 25, 2010 21:54

Lying down in the field, Jake smiles up at the sky, soaking in the sunlight as it hit his skin, reveling in the warmth it gave. There was only one thing that he could think of that was as warm as the sun and he was currently angry at him.

Angry that he had spoken to Bella like that.

Angry that the older wolf still didn’t seem to trust him.

Angry that he wanted to go over to the ass’s house and apologize for something that he shouldn’t be apologizing for.

He had done nothing wrong, had just been protecting his friend from his hot headed lover. Who couldn’t seem to get over the fact that Jake had liked Bella when she had first come back, before he had phased.

Closing his eyes, he pushed the thoughts away, not wanting to think about it, not wanting to ruin the sense of peace, just trying to enjoy the sunlight hitting his skin.

Sighing, he frowned as something tickled his foot, kicking it away, enjoying the sun for a few moments before it returned.

Opening his eyes, he glared at the man sitting at his feet, a piece of grass in his hand, obviously what had been tickling his feet.

“You’re getting sloppy if you didn’t hear me, pup,” Paul said, crawling forward, until he was lying on his side next to Jake.

“I was thinking about things that made me angry, guess that made me lose concentration,” he muttered, not moving into the warmth by his side, even though almost every part of him wanted to.

He glared down at the hand Paul put on his stomach, slowly looking up at Paul’s shining eyes, the other wolf clearly not intimidated by his glare.

“I apologized to her,” Paul murmured, moving closer, hand starting to stroke Jake’s stomach.

“Yeah,” Jake replied mockingly. “It sounded real genuine.”

Paul rolled his eyes, moving closer again, until his side was flush against Jake’s.

“Jake,” Paul said, voice dropping into the tone he used when he was close to pleading. “I said I was sorry and she accepted. I may have over-reacted a little.”

“A little?” Jake asked, shaking his head. “You phased. You could’ve hurt her.”

“I wouldn’t have,” Paul responded. “And even if you hadn’t of been there, Sam would’ve stopped me.”

Sighing, Jack turns on his side, facing Paul.

“You can’t hurt her, Paul,” he said. “She’s already been hurt enough.”

He couldn’t help but lean into the hand Paul used to cup his cheek, reveling in the warmth.

“I promise I won’t,” Paul whispered, face moving closer, Jake closing the distance and devouring the other wolf’s mouth.

Rolling back onto his back, he can’t help but smile as Paul throws an arm over him, while nuzzling him, laying gentle kisses on his neck.

“Are you over being angry?” Paul murmured, snuggling impossibly closer.

“Maybe,” Jake muttered, closing his eyes and soaking in the warmth both from the sun and the shifter at his side.
