I really think it's the walking, plain and simple. I mean, you can lose ten pounds a year by burning 100 calories a day, I think it was? I read that on someone else's LJ in the past week, so I might not have the numbers exactly right, but the gist of it is it's the little bitty things that change your weight, like the candy bar you think is "occasional" but it actually every day (I'm so guilty of this), or the fact that Americans. . .really don't exercise at all? Most people just don't have time. The Japanese may work 14097 hours a day, but they have to walk to the station, walk to lunch, walk to the station, walk home, walk to the conbini, etc. And there are STAIRS EVERYWHERE.

But yeah, Japanese diet, not that healthy. Notice Japanese people are really skinny, but have no muscle mass. And I've seen some heavier middle-aged people, so it could be a metabolism thing. And the dieting. MY GOD THE DIETING. We were doing ~べであろう in 日本語 today and this guy was like 日本人は食べるべきであろう。 先生が”男も?”と言って、”男も!” nodding として言った。
