Let's recap

- Graduated from Tech School number 2 in Pensacola Florida.
- Went back to Washington - things were weird (they usually are when you're gone for a long time)
- Things got better - we prepared to move to California
- Had sex *gasp* under the Lunar Eclipse - isn't that cool?
- Moved to California - lived in a hotel for nearly 2 weeks while we ( Read more... )

It's been so long since I've been in this position.
However, I do have many livejournalling friends who are
either right where you are, or cloth diapering a 4 month old.
I would be more than happy to link this entry to them if
you'd like some thoughts from people you don't know
but I really like :)

That is okay with me. I lurk on your friends' page anyway so I may have read some of their stuff before :)

Hi there,

First, I reccommend joining some LJ momma communities, stat!

Some of my favorites are:

birth_is_normal
attachedparents
babywearer
breastfeeding
cloth_mentor
clothdiapering
co_sleeping
naturalbirth
pregnant
tovaxornottovax

Also - http://www.mothering.com and http://www.kellymom.com are awesome non-LJ resources.

Cloth diapering seems overwhelming at first with all the options and acronyms, however this page did very well to explain everything to me in a way I could understand.

Basically, you build a "stash" - like 30 or so diapers up front, size newborn and smalls, which will last you quite a while. If you don't want to go that route, you may want to see if there is a cloth diaper service in your area- however that's not quite as cute as the options out there. Some of the more popular brands are Blueberry Diapers, Fuzzi Buns, and tons more. Read up as much as you can on it, don't get overwhelmed, it's easy to.

Here is one LJ article which I love to read by LJ user babyslime ( ... )

I picked up most of the books you recommended yesterday - the ones that Barnes and Nobel had. I'm loving all the birth stories in Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. You hear so many horror stories from people and read them online that it can be really discouraging.

I'm also ghosting on the communities you posted. I'm a lurker by nature, checking things out before I settle in start talking. Thank you for all the info.

Jaclyn has said everything that I was going to say! She's *really* good like that.

We're cloth diapering our 4 month old currently and loving it. We started with disposables for the first 2 months and now are completely on cloth. It's really not as intimidating as it seems, as long as you have a good stash to start from, and are willing to do laundry!

Breastfeeding is wonderful, and you can do it! Definitely look into "The Breastfeeding Book" by Dr. Sears. I've heard great things about "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" but haven't read it myself.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me, I'm always open. :)

I'm still looking for the books you mentioned. I think I'll like the one from Dr.Sears if it's anything like the others I've seen.

My husband is still intimidated by the prospect of cloth diapers so I've got to wrangle him away from his video game and get him looking at this. He's open to whatever I want to do, I just want to make sure that he is as comfortable with the commitment as I am.

Thank you two very much! Most of the people I work with talked about how to properly time your epidural so you don't feel a thing followed up by making sure the baby was in the nursery so you could enjoy those last couple nights of being pampered.

I'll def be checking out the resources you offered up, the "what to expect" books are getting a little old

Unfortunately since I'm in the military my insurance won't cover home birth but the birth center is awesome. I lucked out moving to California though, in Washington I'd be stuck in a military hospital with C-section happy docs all over the place.

I LOVE the Dr Sears books!
I have almost all of them and
still refer back to the ones that
apply to crazy 6 year olds ;)

... also, you left this as a comment to yourself
so neither Jaclyn or Jess will know you typed it.
Dork - that I wrote as Fork - and should leave it.
