"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaines

That's where I'm breaking with the original memery. My version can be found below.I would not like to know who really believes in anything on LiveJournal. There is no end of wankery on LJ or anything like that. If you do or don't ( Read more... )

Well, if we're going to be precise, I don't believe in equal rights or even human rights. I believe in sentient rights and the equally important sentient responsibilities.

IF we're going to be precise.

IAWTC.

AS I say on my userinfo- everyone should have an equal right to be a fucking idiot. And as mean as that might sound- THAT is really the right that heterosexual people have. The right to *do it, fuck it up, and get it wrong*, just as much as they have the right to "get it right."

What I object to is the notion that *either side* has some kind of monopoly on how to have healthy relationships.

I'm with you on this one. Everyone should have the right to be equally wrong.

Anyway, I'm about to edit the post.

I just had a really weird brain moment involving "if you believe in gay rights, then clap your hands."

If you believe in fairies, clap your hands, children? ;)

I've edited the post. I'm hearing what a lot of people I respect have to say about that original post and decided to write my own spin on it.

Yes, just like that.

Just like I'm clapping my hands in delight over your edited post. :-)

Something about this meme turned me off. I'm still analyzing what it is. I think it's the implied "and if you ignore this, we'll just assume you're opposed to (or don't believe in) gay rights."

I wondered about that when I posted the thing in the first place, which is one reason I reconsidered having it in my journal and replaced it with this.

in the end, i decided not to post anything at all about it in my own LJ. everyone who knows me knows that i am almost pathologically egalitarian, as well as being in favor of more love and more sex for everybody. anyone who doesn't know me, and cares what my opinion might be, is free to just ask. and anybody who won't bother to ask doesn't really care about my opinion.
