the US has a long history of forcing people to have free choice (which is sort of like having a death penalty for suicide). the late Phil Ochs called attention to this back in the early 1960s:
We own half the world, oh say can you see,

And the name of our product is de-moc-ra-cy,

So, like it or not, you'll just have to be free...

We're the cops of the world."

it's part of the official excuses for why we're occupying Iraq and Afghanistan - we're "helping them build democracy"... whether they want it or not. and i'm sure the instant Fidel flatlines, we'll be all over Cuba like adobo on rice, making sure they have elections and set up a "freely chosen" leader that our "freely elected" leaders like...
