avatar + physics = yaaaaay!

The recent release of The Legend of Korra has rekindled my love for the Avatar series. And this Avatar love is situated right next to my physics love in my brain. So naturally I’ve mushed the two loves together and have been thinking about the physical ramifications of bending! And I’ve come up with some cool theories that really make me wish ( Read more... )

physics, this is my brain, so yeah, bending, television, avatar

Pure Platinum isn't Earth anonymous July 15 2012, 15:30:57 UTC
one of the episodes in The Legend of Korra, Toph was said to not be able to bend pure platinum. Could platinum be it's own element like one's one energy that was first bended in the timeline.

What I thought was that metalbenders are capable of bending metals because of the impurities left behind in the metals, even after it's been treated and purefied and what not. All the metalbenders were really controlling, then, was the dirt impurities in the metal (mostly silicon compounds, as well as a few organic materials and a scant trace of metallic compounds), not the metal itself ( ... )

Oooh thought of two more for earthbending: can metablenders bend the iron in blood? And can earthbenders bend glass (considering silicone is a main ingredient in both earth and glass)?

Sand bending would lead to glass bending. I'm curious about plastic bending.

Waterbending and the moon ext_2503163 March 25 2014, 16:13:41 UTC
I always thought that water benders would be the ones who would develop gravity bending. Why? because the moon was their first teacher as she pushed and pulled the waters.

side but less important factors are:
It would show how more balanced the elements are.
