I phoned up HMR&C to ask for information about how tax credits are calculated.

I was told they didn't have any information packs on it, but suggested I call the inland revenue instead.

Turns out the inland revenue was merged into HM revenue and customs three years ago... the number I managed to find was the same one as I just called.
