Thanks to everyone who replied to the last couple of entries I posted (...). Lately I've been trying to read more. I unofficially picked up the 25bookchallenge, started 09 June, 2007. Though from the looks of it, I'm already failing? But whatevs; the four books that I've read thus far are already four more than the number of books I finished last year for my ( Read more... )

Project Gutenberg has a surprisingly good collection of e-texts in the public domain. ^_^ Also, you might be interested in joining Good Reads? Quite a few people from fandom are on there, and it's a good way to get new recs.

Ohhh, right, I used to frequent Project Gutenberg, but I think I forgot about it because for some reason I never bothered to bookmark the site. XD; Thanks, Tari!

And I joined Good Reads. It looks really, really fun. *____* My reading list is amazingly (overwhelmingly) long, so I don't think I'll be needing book recs anytime soon, but I like the other features the site seems to offer, so. :)

(Oh, and thanks for the link to the Yamada Taro drama. XD; Will be checking that out too.)

I hate hearing about how the Da Vinci Code was amazing. Finally. Someone who said it wasn't amazing. ♥ Now I can cite this as the reason I won't read it. >3

AHAHAHA. ONLY THE RING FINGER KNOWS. AHAHA. I STILL HAVE THAT ON MY COMPUTER. DON'T ASK ME WHY.

I knowww, I was all, "This is it? THIS is why people have been making such a fuss?" The book itself is lacking, IMHO. And there are times when it gets really cheesy. XD;

OH, THE MANGA IS SO GOOD. YUM. Hotaru Odagiri's artwork is to die for. But the novels are... um. ._.' Well they're certainly something. *snerk*

AHAHA I AM FREE FROM THE NAGGING SENSATION THAT I WAS MISSING OUT. ♥

Gah. I wasn't that happy with the manga. The art is usually the only thing that keeps me going with mangas sometimes. XD BUT GAH. The books are...worse? Alright. Not touching that shit with a ten foot pole. XD

I read it because I wanted to see if it was worth the read (if that makes sense), and at the end all I thought was that the book itself was boring. Not going into the whole debate, but just looking at the book and the writing itself, that was my assessment. ♥

Really? I that it was really good and it's what made me follow up with the novels. I liked how the manga's story was cyclical. Satoru Kannagi's ability to weave a story can be commendable, I think, but the manner in which she does it can also be inefficient. The novels aren't that bad, if you don't expect very much from them to begin with. They're the average trashy romance novels with cringe-worthy sex scenes, buuuut the translation is so poorly done that it makes the novel seem sub par. D: There are a whole bunch of grammatical mistakes and typos in all the novels, courtesy of Duane Johnson the translator. XD; (I can't explain it well, but there was a pretty good review of this novel on Amazon.)
