I'm pretty sure that on a global-scale, about the only fairly obvious trend has been the trend for an increase in the percentage of TCs that become Cat 2 and above. But, I understand that even this is still very debatable, owing to the fact that the science has become much better.
Gray's the first to point out that there hasn't been any indisputable increase in the numbers of TCs globally, and of course he strongly challenges those who would say that intensity is increasing.
But I say, gee, man, just look at Australia this season. And Hurricanes Catarina, Vince & Epsilon for Pete's sake!
I know the technology is better, but it's not like ship reports were few and far between one hundred years ago, let alone fifty years ago.
