His seems cleaner, more regular, and less cluttered. However, I don't like the way he represents multiple lines using the same track by using two or three lines next to each other. It's too busy and on that one front, the MTA's method of only using one line for each "color" (group of trains that run on the same tracks) is better.
Also, people will just tend to defer to the MTA's because they feel it's more authoritative, and they're used to the way the MTA codes things.
yeah, i don't think the human eye can distinguish between that subtle of color variation when you're leaning over someone who's blocking the view of the map you're trying to study without overstaying your welcome on a train that's shaking and hurtling back and forth.
I've always hated the MTA one and I like the dude's one much better.
However, that may be because the dude's one is set up the way every subway map I've ever seen in Europe is and that's the style I'm used to.
It just makes more sense the way he does it because you can see the lines of movement through the individual lines.
If you aren't in NYC a lot trying to figure out that the "A,C,E" next to one line means they all follow that same route for a while is confusing as all hell.
