I always liked this one because it's goes straight to the issue of just how fucked up human beings are. You don't need whizbang other wordly tech and aliens to get that lesson. Torchwood always works best when it's about the sheer fucked-up-ness of what it means to be human in this world.
Possibly my favorite episode. It has a permanent spot on my iPod. Favorite moments: Owen's reaction when the cannibals show that they have Ianto and are going to bleed him, Gwen running to Ianto and hugging him to her when Jack comes to the rescue.
This is my favorite episode. The best bit is when he's torturing the guy in the basement. There's nothing better than a darker side of Jack to me. His "SAY WHAT?" face over Gwen and Owen kissing, his jealousy over Owen and Gwen after she gets shot, and all of his Big Ass Hero moments make this episode one of my favorites.
It's not my favorite Torchwood episode but it's a damn good one. What I like most about it is how it highlights each of the main characters. Every one of them has a chance to shine in this and the characterizations are totally spot on. It really is about the team - a true ensemble piece. The other interesting bit is how the "monsters" are actually human beings because we can be just as bad as anything else out there. And, of course, I love Captain Jack swooping in at the rescue like the big damn hero that he is. :-)
