Sorry that I don't have a more detailed comment for this (my brain is unfortunately already asleep), but - *this* really did hit me hard. I _do_ see Ianto this way, as *understanding* this, about the sheer horror of what it means to be Jack, to have Jack's curse. But Ianto, and those like him, can offer Jack a brief moment of - shelter.
Thank you! I always figured that Ianto was a smart guy and could read people pretty well. With Jack, Ianto has to know that there's so much more beneath the surface, so much that he'll never know. But he also knows that Jack values what Ianto has to offer him - a small stretch of happiness and companionship during that long stretch of time.
It's just different for Jack - and that isn't a bad thing.
