It's such a wonderful metaphor for so many things. I want to do more with it, too.

It's great metaphor and it is demanding I play with it but alas it is playing by rules I do not comprehend (possibly from a completely different dimension)

But that's the fun of it - it's both paradox and metaphor, and a kind of Escher-like visible impossibility. Which is great fun to play with.

In a literal sense, the interior of the TARDIS does not exist in space or time.
