Also, if you want to do Pompeii, I recommend an overnight stay somewhere in the Bay of Naples (NOT Naples itself - try somewhere on the Sorrento peninsula if you can) rather than a day trip. If you want to stay in Rome, then I suggest a day trip to Ostia instead - extremely interesting, and a lot less overrun by tourists, and you'd have tome to properly explore, which I don't think you would on a day trip to Pompeii.

Yes, i did a bit more looking into the Pompeii day trip and it's bloody well nearly 4 hours by bus just for a 2 hour tour. Will look into Ostia. Guess it will depend on how badly him indoors wants to see Pompeii. He does have a tendency to get motion sick on a bus so he might think twice when i tell him how long it will take to get there. Thanks for the suggestion!
