Best storyline : Caroline's transformation, Katherine...just...everything about her, any that involved my girls being awesome/actually interacting, Stefan continuing to be the best vampire boyfriend ever, Stefan+Caroline BFFness, Stefan/Elena, Bonnie/Jeremy (for the most part), Tyler becoming less of a dick the "What were you thinking???" storyline(s) of the season: Everything with Andie. Poor girl. Also, the fake curse that killed a whole mess of people when really, it was all about Klaus. Heroine/hero of the season: ALL MY GIRLS! Idiot(s) of the season: Alaric. Dude, why would you follow Damon around like a lost puppy after everything he's done? I lost all my respect for you, buddy. Also, Mason. Wasted potential: ROSE!, Lucy, Jules, Greta, the Martins, JENNA!!! The fall-out between Bonnie & Caroline after Caroline's transition and however they managed to work things out & become besties again since it all happened off-screen! Was the finale worth the hype and have the cliffhanger got you on edge?: It was rather rage-inducing for me

Everything with Andie. Poor girl. Ugh, this. What the hell was even the point of having her around? So that we could see Damon ~grow~ due to his decision to not kill her? Wow, congrats on not killing the woman you've been raping and abusing for a while now, Damon. ~*~such a deep character~*~
I feel the same way about Alaric, but at the same time, almost everyone on the show treats Damon like he isn't, well, Damon. It's absolutely ridiculous. So I don't really fault Alaric. I just love Alaric a lot okay.
UGGGGH I AM SO ANNOYED WITH THE LACK OF CAROLINE AND BONNIE POTENTIAL AMAZINGNESS. This season really cut back on the friendships to develop romantic relationships instead and it HURT EVERYONE, IMO. No Caroline and Bonnie, no Jeremy and Tyler, tons of other great friendships that were ignored...): SADFACE
Really, really nervous about the Stefan twist and that it was only done to make Damon/Elena happen. Really nervous that Elena actually meant what she said in the finale

EXACTLY! It sickens me that we were actually supposed to see that as character growth. What. The. FRAK?!
ITA that this season didn't focus enough on the friendships. I hope they remedy that next season but I'm not counting on it :(
Best storyline : Caroline and Tyler's transitions, the Bonnie/Jeremy relationship was something good that came out of the season, Bonnie's progression to what she wants to use her magic for and the lengths she's willing to go was also good, if choppy. the "What were you thinking???" storyline(s) of the season: The damn Martins! What was the point?! Regressing Damon back to the jackass who would take Andie and compel her like he did Caroline, stretching the moonstone crap out for so long when the whole thing was fake. Heroine/hero of the season: Bonnie and Jeremy (for his strength and mettle in being with someone like Bonnie who takes on the responsibility she does). Idiot(s) of the season: Elijah. I mean, really? You believed Klaus? Elena for so many reasons. Stefan for believing Elijah. Wasted potential: Bonnie working with the Martins, Bonnie and Luka actually fighting about his deception, making Greta an actual 3D character, UJ training Jeremy in the Gilbert legacy. Was the finale worth the hype and have the cliffhanger got you

I liked the moonstone stuff so much when it was happening but now in retrospect...IA ): blargh
Elijah. I mean, really? You believed Klaus? LOL IKR. I was so happy when he died, even if I liked Elijah beforehand, because HE FUCKED EVERYTHING UP AND FOR WHAT? He needs a sassy gay friend STAT.
Just curious, why is Elena one of the idiots of the season? I can definitely see some points where arguments would be made about this, but I'd love to see some discussion about it! If you don't mind?
I'm only excited about two things for next season: Jeremy's storyline and anything to do with Bonnie. Yes and yes.
Just curious, why is Elena one of the idiots of the season? I can definitely see some points where arguments would be made about this, but I'd love to see some discussion about it! If you don't mind?
Oh Lord. Lol. You probably won't be satisfied with my reasons. Maybe she wasn't one of the idiots of the season, but she definitely had her moments. There was her immediately jumping to suicide instead of helping everyone else try to keep her alive and the world safe. There was her taking Elijah at his word after she took the dagger out of him. I spent most of my time shaking my head and rolling my eyes at her than cheering her on or even understanding what she was doing. This season didn't do Elena any favors. It was more of the same of her flip-flopping on her negative feelings for Damon, and the finally definitely did her no favors. I blame a large part of that on the producers prioritizing Damon and his happiness over Elena.
No, I'm satisfied! I love Elena but she does make questionable decisions. I like to think it is what makes her a good character, you know? But the Damon shit really had me aggravated. I really do try and blame the writing, because they so obviously just gloss over Elena's very real and very understandable anger and issues with Damon in order for her to ~bring him back to his humanity~. It's really foul and detracts hugely from her character. I had a lot of issues with her telling Damon she likes him just as he is. Dying or not, that shit is so super false.
Best storyline : I did love Elena's deals with Elijah because I loved watching her outwit and face him down. There weren't enough of my girls working together this season. Caroline+wolves storyline was kind of painful to watch, but Accola worked the hell out of it. Bonnie determined to defeat Klaus, Elena determined to save her. the "What were you thinking???" storyline(s) of the season: Damon 'earned' Elena - because women are like prizes in slot machines, not people! - by murdering her brother when she refused him, raping and abusing someone, murdering copious people for no reason, threatening her, shoving her around, promising to destroy everything she loves...yes, showmakers, that makes perfect sense! Oh, and: Damon is raping and abusing and violating and controlling the mind of this poor woman. Yes, let's make her abuse scenes all about him and his angst, create the most disgusting victim-blame scene I've seen in the last year, and give her no closure whatsoever. Classy! Heroine/hero of the season; All the ladies. Idiot(s) of the

I was going to quote some of my favorite bits but then I'd have to quote EVERY SINGLE WORD of this! I whole-heartedly agree with everything you said here.
Andie gets accidentally turned into a vampire and eats Alaric, who was indifferent to her plight? She then goes on to have a storyline of her own?
lol and YES! Alaric's indifference toward Damon's treatment of Andie is the thing that made me loathe him. Though, he lost even more points for continuing to buddy-up to Damon after Damon force-fed Elena his blood. Just...and he's the only parental figure Jeremy & Elena have left?! WHY, SHOW, WHY would you do that to those poor kids?!
Also, your dislike of Matt pleases me to no end. Aside from the emotional abuse and the constant complaining about the women in his life, the guy starts manhandling women whenever he gets pissed off. Like, is Damon his role-model or something?
Alaric's character did a complete about-face in even the most trivial of ways; how about his comment about Elijah's hair? It might have been funny, I suppose, if it wasn't so jarring - since when has Alaric been flippant? Humorous, self-deprecating, friendly, but he's largely a pretty serious dude. Instead they kind of retconned his character because as he was Alaric would never play sidekick to Damon, who he rightfully finds morally reprehensible. (You know how he says he hates Damon? And then a couple episodes later with no character development and no buildup they're buddy buddy and he's concerned? Basically how everyone's characterization warps around Damon, I suppose.)
Not only that but, concerning Caroline - as meganbmoore pointed out - when Tyler was being threatening and creepy at least he a) didn't know of her history and b) had every reason to believe she could pitch him across the room if he wanted. (It was still deplorable behaviour, but I am making a point.) Matt, on the other hand, didn't know about her super strength and knew she
( ... )
Exactly! Like, Alaric was actually a decent guy for a while there and all the sudden, he's acting like an ass and hanging out with the man who murdered and turned his wife. How does this make sense?
YES! Also, with Tyler, there's the whole wolfy thing to take into consideration. I'm not saying that's completely to blame for his rage issues or that it excuses him for being a dick but that aggression doesn't just exist for no reason. Whereas Matt does not have any biological reason for being aggressive, and as you pointed out, knew about Caroline's history and had no reason to think she'd be able to defend herself against him physically. And then he pulled the same crap with Liz. Yet, I'm supposed to think he's 'the good guy'? Does not compute.
Best storyline: Beremy relationship, Bonnie's progress with her powers, Klaus and Elijah's background was interesting to me, Elena starting to fight back, and definitely Caroline because she grew up a lot this season The "What were you thinking???" storyline(s) of the season: The beginning of the season when Elena wanted to sacrifice herself, The Martins, Damon turning back into a pompous ass, and then Elena kissing him. Ridiculous.
Heroine/hero of the season: All of the Girls, but special shout out to Bonnie because she was definitely kicka$$
Idiot(s) of the season: Damon(His whole "I want Elena", "I love Elena", I deserve Elena" is starting to work my nerves. He doesn't deserve her. It's not about what you deserve. That's why I cant get with Delena, Damon feels he should have her like she's something to be owned.) Matt(He totally made it to the top of my s@#$ list. He is such a punk. Talking about how hard his life is and how he can't handle being with Caroline. Dude, love and life is hard. You can't run from it. Not to mention he
