If I'm ever worried about a character sounding out of character, I youtube the best of their character. Chances are that someone has put together a batch of some of the character's best moments, when they're truly them. Idk, maybe it's just me, but it helps me to get their voice right in my head.

Thank you! That sounds like a good idea. Youtube usually has the key scenes for every character!

My Advice!
1. USE A BETA!
2. Write something YOU would want to read, not just what you think other people will want to read.
3. If you're not sure whether you want to start writing fanfic... DO IT!!! BUT... BEWARE! It may very well TAKE. OVER. YOUR. LIFE!

1. Get a beta.
2. Before you write dialogue, LISTEN TO PEOPLE TALK. Write how you would speak. Rewatch the show to get character cadences down.
3. Brush up on proper punctuation (especially for dialogue), grammar, and verb forms. Memorize the irregular verbs. This is as easy as checking Wikipedia nowadays, and doesn't cost anything.
4. Read. A lot.
