A friend asked me once, why him, and at first, I was taken aback by the question because all I could think was, why not him? I never expected that someone might not see what I see, or that what I see isn't what someone else would want. I honestly didn't know how to answer. The look on my face though, after being asked, obviously expressed my thoughts because the question was quickly followed up by a list of Tuti's faults from his obnoxious laugh to his eccentric taste in clothing, and rounded off by his terrible sense of humor. I guess to some, they may be faults, but to me, they are each pieces and parts that make Tuti the unique man that I am not ashamed to say I love.
Yes, Tuti may be loud at times, verging on obnoxious and annoying, but in those times I never need wonder where he is. What people have a habit of overlooking are the other times, the important times, when the man is quiet and reserved. Those are the times when the most attention is required to be paid because they are easily missed, and yet they are the times that speak louder than Tuti's own voice.
Yes, Tuti has a terribly sense of style and fashion, I will not deny that, but then again, that in and of itself is Tuti. The first day I met him he looked like he had pulled on the first pair of pants, T-shirt and button down he could find - in the dark. I shook my head at the first sight of him, but then we were introduced, and he smiled and laughed loudly, everything just seemed to click. If he had been wearing anything else, it wouldn't have been Tuti.
And yes, Tuti does have a terrible sense of humor, but to be honest, I share that sense of humor, and if people actually got to know me better, they would realize mine was even worse than Tuti's.
In the end, I never answered the question. Instead, I turned the tables and voiced my own, why not him? While my friend could state many reasons why I shouldn't be with Tuti, it was reassuring (even though I didn't need the assurance in the first place) that my friend couldn't come up with a single good reason why not.
