Air Conditioning-Car

So, our AC broke in our '03 Mazda 626 that we have had since July. Now Ben refuses to take road trips out of FL because "the winshield will fog up if it's raining and the windows are down". So he refuses to take roadtrips because of this, and I find AC cosmetic. He does not. I know that not everyone has AC but that they do still take road trips ( Read more... )

I drove without air conditioning for a long time, and I give you some of my wisdom:
  • If it's raining, you won't roll down the windows very far.
  • To take care of fogging, keep a towel in the car to wipe off the windows.
  • If you're a big sweaty man like Ben or me, air conditioning is not cosmetic, and not optional.
  • It doesn't rain that much.

heh, I drove without AC for something like 2 years including many multi-state trips. I would usually just crack the windows and use the vents

i left ben notes about my experiences with the 87 volvo, my windshield fog problems because of wet asthma breath. :) the side i sit on always is damper in any kind of weather, it's just if it shows or not.

ANyway, use rainx or defogger creme on the inside of the windshield. ALso, use a felt classroom eraser to 'demist' the fog off. It's always worked for me. A real felt one will absorb and not spread the water like a towel. Felt is boiled and then dried wool, so it's really absorbent. :) RIBBIT

see you for Mardi frog? :)

If you're going to drive in colder weather, in another state, you WILL need to have functional defrost. It's pretty much mandatory.

AC service cost will vary depending on the issue. If it just needs freon recharge, shouldn't be too much.

I wouldn't term AC in a car "cosmetic". Optional, yes. Cosmetic, no. Cosmetic applies more to things like the paint job, moonroof, rims, etc...
