SO. A woman security guard noticed us turning around in circles and was able to get us tickets from a machine, which wouldn't work for me but worked for her. The train was to come at 7:30. It was 5:30. I went up to the surface again to try to find a farmacia for my rash. I found one right away, and the woman spoke English and was pretty nice. I was ( Read more... )

Elizabeth has three comments:

The Arab merchant sounds like a total b*st*rd, but the market sounds amazing and my mouth is watering over your description. (I'm dying to go to Egypt, but Arab markets in Spain sound good too!)

I've never heard of religious art described as hardcore Christian paintings of Jesus and Mary and all that heavy stuff! Does it really strike you as, er, that hard? It always makes me feel rawther uplifted...which I suppose is hardcore in itself.

Isabel and Ferdinand were probably greatly afraid of death. They certainly burned enough people to death.

What would you have done if that guy had felt you up, Zib? I'm not sure if I reacted in the best way...Too passive? Too upset? Should I have beat the crap out of him???

Whew! Did I really get their names right?! I was debating whether to put Fernando, Francisco, or Ferdinand.

The art in the churches and cathedrals was really dark. There were several huge paintings of beheadings, whippings, and of course, the crucifixtion. Why do you suppose Jesus's crucifixtion is focused on so much? And there were lots of other paintings depicting people who were obviously the "bad guys", Mary crying and sobbing, people falling to the ground, Satan...It was pretty heavy. I haven't been in cathedrals in the US, though -- maybe it's different in Spain?

I printed out all 8 pages of your essay (or whatever it is--essay sounds so formal) and I promise I'll try to read it before I lose it (it is a law of nature that 99.9% of all the peices of paper that enter my room will, eventually, get lost there).

You are lovely, lovely.
