http://turnthepageover.livejournal.com/81891.html “Josie! Our pizzas are done,” I called out to her, hearing her footsteps as she ran into the kitchen. “Back up, baby. I have to take them out of the oven still and I don’t want you to get burned.”
“Daddy, when Deedee coming home?” she asked, backing up and standing in the doorway as she watched me take the pizzas out.
“He’s on his way home now, love,” I told her, setting the pans down on the stove and closing the oven before turning it off.
“Yay!” she cheered, clapping her hands and I smiled.
“And Emily is coming over to play with you.”
“She is?!” Josie squealed and I laughed, nodding.
“She is!” I squealed back, watching her grin in excitement before bounding out of the kitchen.
I took the oven gloves off, tossing them onto the counter and walking into the living room. Josie ran out a few minutes later, carrying a box of toys and dumping them onto the floor.
“Josie!” I groaned, watching the Barbie dolls and accessories scatter around the floor.
“Emily play with Jo-Jo’s toys!” she defended herself, putting her small hands on her hips and giving me a look.
“Emily’s not even here yet,” I told her and she huffed.
“Daddy, you said she coming!”
“She is,” I said.
“Then she play with Jo-Jo’s toys!” she said, raising her hands like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Whatever! Trash the living room then,” I said, shaking my head and sitting down on the couch.
I heard the door opening, watching Josie jump up and run over to the door.
“Deedee!” she cheered, jumping up into Jack’s arms and laughing as he twirled her around.
“Hi, princess!” he cooed, hugging her and adjusting her to sit on his hip. “Oh, I missed you!”
“Daddy and I made pizza!” she told him, grinning proudly and Jack smiled.
“You did?! What kind did you make?” he asked.
“You and Daddy have pepp’roni and sausage and mooshrooms,” she said and I laughed, watching Jack hold in his giggle.
“Oh yeah?” he asked, watching her nod matter-of-factly. “What kind of pizza did you make for you?”
“Jus’ cheese,” she responded, pushing her hair out of her eyes and nodding.
“That’s it? No mooshrooms?” he teased and she shook her head, sticking out her tongue.
“Uh uhn! No like mooshrooms! They gross!” she said and Jack giggled.
“You’re gross,” he told her, gently tossing her on the couch and making her squeal and giggle.
He plopped down next to me, snuggling into my side and grinning.
“Hey,” I said, accepting the kiss he eagerly pressed to my lips.
“Hey, cutie,” he said, grinning. “Do you like mooshrooms?”
“Yes I do,” I answered, hearing him giggle.
“Is Matt here?” he asked, holding on to Josie as she climbed into his lap.
“Mickey Matt?!” she asked, eyes lighting up.
“No,” I answered, raising an eyebrow.
“He’s not?” Jack asked and I shook my head.
“Uh, no. I’m pretty sure I would know if Matt was at our house,” I told him and he made a face.
“His car is parked in front of the house,” he told me and I furrowed my eyebrows.
“Are you sure it’s his car?”
“Um, I’m pretty sure he’s the only person I know with Mickey Mouse seat covers,” Jack answered.
“That’s weird,” I said, leaning over and looking out the window. “That is his car. I don’t see him inside it though. And it wasn’t here when I got home.”
“Really weird,” he said, shaking his head. “Why are there naked Barbies all over the floor?”
“Ask Josie,” I told him, shrugging and he looked down at our daughter.
“Why don’t you dress your Barbies, weirdo?” he asked her, making her jaw drop.
“I can’t dress them myself!” she told him, exasperated.
“Then bring them here and I’ll dress them. It’s gross,” he told her, lifting her off of his lap and setting her on her feet.
I raised an eyebrow at him, seeing him shoot me a look.
“What?” he asked and I scooted closer to him.
“Are you afraid of doll vagina too?” I asked under my breath, laughing as he smacked my arm.
“Shut up!” he exclaimed, glaring at me.
“Deedee!” Josie said, hands on her hips as she glared at her father. “No hitting!”
“Daddy’s being bad!” he argued, hearing her huff.
“So jus put him in time-out!” she exclaimed, shaking her head at him and bending over to collect her Barbies.
I giggled, raking my nails against his jean clad knee and breathing in his ear.
“Mmm, I’m a bad boy, huh? Maybe you should spank me,” I purred, feeling him shudder and shove my away.
“Our daughter’s right there, perv,” he hissed, glaring at me and I laughed.
“She didn’t hear me,” I told him, rolling my eyes.
“Quit it,” he glared, and I grinned, leaning over and giving him a sloppy kiss on the cheek.
“When is Cass dropping Emily off?” I asked, watching Josie dump a bunch of Barbies and clothes in Jack’s lap.
“She should be here any minute,” he told me, handing me a doll and a dress.
“Okay. Well the pizzas are done, so we can eat whenever you want,” I told him, struggling to get the dress to fit Barbie’s arms into the sleeves of the dress. “Ugh, why do they make these things so impossible? This is hard than dressing Josie when she learned to roll.”
“I don’t know,” he huffed, “but now I think I know why Josie never dresses them.”
We sat and struggled with the dolls for a few more minutes before the doorbell rang. Josie jumped up excitedly, running to the door as Jack tossed the doll in his hands down and followed her.
“Saved by the bell,” he said and I laughed, tossing my own doll down and standing up. “Hey, guys!”
I smiled at Cass as she walked inside, seeing Emily standing at her side with her baby doll in hand and a small pink backpack on her back.
“Hey,” I said to Cass, leaning down and waving at Emily. “Hey, Em.”
“You know, Alex, silly. Say hi,” Cassadee told her and Emily looked up at me.
“Hi,” she said and I smiled at her little voice.
“She’s been doing really good on the potty, but I put extra pants in her bag just in case,” Cass told Jack and he nodded. “And she wanted to bring some Animal Crackers too. I put enough in there for her and Josie to share.”
“Okay,” he said, nodding at her as she rambled on.
“Okay. I think that’s everything. Call me if you need anything,” she said, nodding. “I’ll be back to get her in a few hours.”
“Cass, take your time. Seriously,” he said and I laughed. “There’s no rush. We’ll take good care of her.”
“Go and enjoy your alone time with your boo. And don’t spend it cleaning or doing something weird like that,” I told her.
“I won’t,” she said, laughing and bending down to her daughter’s level. “Have fun playing with Josie, sweetie. Mommy will be back in a little bit. I love you.’
She kissed her cheek, standing up and smiling at us.
“Thank you for this, guys,” she said and we both nodded.
“It’s no problem,” I told her.
“I’ll see you in a few hours,” she said, nodding.
“Don’t come back before eight or we won’t let you in,” Jack told her, pushing her towards the door. “Now go get ready for you boy.”
“Thank you again-”
“Go, go, go, go!” he said, shoving her out the door.
I heard her laugh, watching her wave before Jack shut the door in her face.
“Let’s go eat some pizza,” he told me, grabbing Emily’s hand and guiding her towards the kitchen.
***
“I’m so full,” Jack groaned, rubbing his stomach. “That was delicious, babe.”
“Josie’s the one that made it,” I told him, grabbing his plate as I stood up. “I just opened all the packages.”
“Well, that was the best pizza I’ve ever eaten, my little chef!” he cooed at Josie and I heard her laugh. “How was your pizza?”
“Good!” she exclaimed.
“Ew. Chew your food before you talk, daughter,” he told her, and I could hear Josie giggle. “Was your pizza good, Emily?”
“Yes,” she answered, picking up her sippy cup and taking a drink of her apple juice.
“Good. If you guys are done you can go play,” Jack told them. “Josie, why don’t you show Emily all of your baby dolls?”
“Otay!” Josie said, jumping out of her seat. “Come on, Emily! You see Jo-Jo toys!”
I watched Josie take the smaller girl by the hand, leading her towards her room.
“Emily’s so quiet,” I said, wrapping my arms around Jack from behind and settling my chin on top of his head. “Josie has never been that quiet.”
“Probably because neither of us are very quiet, darling,” Jack said and I chuckled.
“Have you talked to May?” I asked him, feeling him lean back and look up at my face.
“No. I’m letting her pregnancy hormones cool off. I don’t want her to still be pissed at me,” he told me.
“It’s been a few days, though. I’m sure she’s fine now,” I told him and he snorted.
“Yeah, but mood swings are a bitch,” he said and I nodded.
“Tell me about it,” I said and he huffed, elbowing me in the side.
“Shut up,” he said and I laughed. “I’m just insanely curious to find out who is fathering my baby niece or nephew.”
“Me too, believe me,” I told him, massaging his shoulder, “but we’ll find out eventually.”
“I know,” he said, sighing contently.
“I’m gonna go check on the girls,” I told him, pulling my hands away and walking towards the door.
“I was totally right,” he said and I turned back to him, cocking an eyebrow.
“About what?”
“You’re a hot ass blonde,” he told me and I snorted, rolling my eyes.
I walked down the hallway, peeking into Josie’s room and seeing both the girls caring for their own baby doll as they talked back and forth in their own little language. I smiled, watching them play for a few minutes before turning and going back to the kitchen.
I walked into the room to find May now seated across from Jack, also shocked to see Matt sitting next to her.
“Hey there,” I said, smiling at her and giving him a nod. “We were wondering about you. Saw your car outside.”
“I was upstairs at May’s,” he said and I raised an eyebrow.
“So what’s up?” Jack asked, looking at his sister, who was biting her nails nervously.
“Well, first I wanted to apologize for freaking out like that on Saturday,” she said, smiling apologetically. “All these hormones are making me crazy and-”
“Don’t worry about it,” he told her, shaking his head. “I totally get it. I’ve been there. Almost killed Alex once.”
I shot him a look before shaking it off and turning to her.
“It was probably a little uncalled for for us to just put you on the spot like that, too, May,” I told her, seeing her bite her lip. “I’m sorry for that.”
“It’s okay. I just... I needed some time to figure some stuff out before I told you,” she said, and I could see her glance at Matt from the corner of her eye.
I glanced over at him, seeing him looking down at the table uncomfortably as he rolled his lip ring between his teeth.
“So what did you figure out?” Jack asked, and I could see her take a deep breath.
“You know what? I’m really craving some ice cream,” I said, standing up and running a hand through my hair. “I’m gonna head to the grocery store and pick some up for us. You want to ride with me, Flyzik?”
He looked up at me and I raised an eyebrow, cocking my head towards the door and seeing him nod.
“We’ll be back in a little bit,” I told them, leaning down to kiss Jack. “Do you want me to take the girls with me?
“No, they’ll be fine playing,” he said, giving me a questioning look.
“Okay,” I told him.
I looked up at May, nodding my head at her and then Jack. She bit her lip, nodding to show me that she understood that I was giving her alone time to talk to Jack.
Matt followed me out the door, and we climbed into my car. I waited until I pulled out onto the street before bringing the topic up.
“So,” I said, glancing at him, “you’re gonna be a daddy, huh?”
