“My mom wants us to come over for Thanksgiving,” I told Jack quietly, running my fingers over his stomach gently. He opened his eyes, raising an eyebrow.

“With your mom and...” he trailed off, and I sighed.

“My dad, yeah,” I answered and he nodded, looking at me.

“What do you wanna do, babe?” he asked, watching me curiously.

“Well obviously I really don’t want to be near my father,” I said and he nodded sympathetically. “But I feel bad for my mom. She tries so hard to be there for us and be close to Josie, but my sucky relationship with my dad is making it hard.”

“So you wanna go?” he asked and I sighed.

“I feel like I should go for my mom. She deserves for us to at least attempt to have a civil family gathering on Thanksgiving,” I told him and he nodded.

“That’s fine, baby,” he said, playing with my finger.

“But you don’t have to go,” I told him. “I don’t want to knowingly force you into an uncomfortable situation.”

“Babe, you won’t be forcing me into anything. Mostly because you could never force me to do something and I would probably leave you if you actually did,” he said and I chuckled.

“You really don’t have to go though. My feelings won’t be hurt. You and Josie can just stay here where I know you’ll both have fun,” I told him and he rolled his eyes.

“Josie is two months old, Alex. She doesn’t even know where she is half the time. And as long as she is with you or me, she has as much fun as a nine-week-old baby can have,” he said and I laughed.

“Shut up. I know Josie will be oblivious, but you won’t. I don’t want you to have to suffer an afternoon with my fucked up family,” I told him and he looked up at me.

“Alex,” he said, rolling over onto his side and moving my hair out of my eyes. “A little less than a year ago, you and I procreated and made a beautiful little fetus that turned into that sleeping baby in the corner. So, taking that into consideration, I would say that we are a family.”

“Yeah,” I said. “Bu-”

“But nothing,” he said. “I will face your judgmental father so you don’t have to be miserable alone.”

“Aren’t you so sweet,” I said and he grinned.

“Baby, I’m the best,” he answered. “You should know that.”

I rolled my eyes, kissing him.

“I’ll have to call my mom later and tell her we’re gonna come over, then,” I said and he nodded.

“We’ll just go in the afternoon, right? ‘Cause I’m sure Joe will be home and my mom will be going all out,” he said and I nodded.

“That’s fine. I don’t wanna be near my dad for too long anyway,” I told him. “I’ll let my mom know.”

“So will I,” he said. “This will be Josie’s first Thanksgiving.”

“And she’s toothless and can’t eat people food. Sucks to be her,” I said and he chuckled.

“I think she’ll be okay. She doesn’t realize our food tastes better than the crap we give her. Plus she’ll probably just sleep the whole time.”

“Or yell about nothing,” I giggled, glancing over at our sleeping daughter.

“I’m pretty sure in her mind she’s yelling about something. And to her it’s probably something important and she just thinks we’re too stupid to understand,” he said and I laughed.

“Hell, we probably are,” I said. “That’s how it’s gonna be for the rest of our lives.”

“Probably. She’ll always be a step ahead of us.”

“Mm, what time is it?” I asked, laying my head next to his.

“Like ten,” he answered and I played with his fingers.

“I’m bored,” I said, running the pads of my thumbs over the body of his nails. “Let’s go do something.”

“We can’t. Josie’s sleeping,” he answered and I shrugged.

“We can wake her up,” I answered and he stared at me like I was crazy.

“Hell no. She’ll be cranky as fuck. I’m not dealing with her pissed off little self just because you’re bored.”

“But I miss her,” I said, pouting, and he rolled his eyes.

“You saw her, like, an hour ago before she fell asleep,” he told me and I pouted more.

“But I don’t wanna spend a single moment without my baby girl,” I whined.

“You’ll get over it,” he answered, yawning and closing his eyes.

“But Jack,” I whined, poking him and moving my body closer to his. “I wanna go do something.”

“Go write your paper,” he answered, still not opening his eyes.

“Noo, that’s not due until Monday. Come on, baby. Let’s go somewhere,” I said, poking him.

“Where the hell do you expect to go at ten o’clock at night with a two month old baby, Gaskarth?” he asked and I shrugged.

“I don’t know. But I want ice cream and junk food. And sex,” I told him, rubbing his thigh and he groaned.

“Too tired for sex, no,” he mumbled, swatting my hand away.

“You are never too tired for sex,” I whined. “Come on!”

“At the rate we’re going you’re going to get me pregnant again,” he said, huffing and smacking my hand.

“Well Josie could always use a sibling,” I answered, raising an eyebrow.

“No, Alex,” he mumbled.

“Not ever? Really?” I asked.

“I don’t fucking know, Alex! Can we have this conversation some other time?!” he demanded and I chuckled, kissing his forehead.

“You’re so cute when you’re annoyed with me,” I told him, playing with his hair. He scrunched up his nose, opening his eyes and giving me a glare. “Awh! A Josie face!”

“I am gonna punch you so hard,” he warned and I giggled. I leaned forward, kissing his lips gently.

“Can we go to the store now?” I questioned and he grunted, rolling his eyes. “Hey! How many nights did I wake up at three in the morning to run to the store and get you whatever you wanted when you were pregnant?”

“I am not waking Josie up!” he exclaimed. “Go by yourself!”

I opened my mouth to say something, but was interrupted by small cries coming from the bassinet.

“Problem solved,” I responded and Jack huffed. “Let’s go. She’ll fall asleep in the car.”

“Shut up, you idiot,” Jack mumbled, getting out of the bed to get Josie. I smiled, slapping his ass before getting up after him.

***

“I told you she would fall asleep,” I told Jack, getting out of the car.

“Let’s just hurry up and get your fucking ice cream,” he answered, taking Josie’s carrier out of his hands. “Oh my god, this is heavy.”

“That would be our fatbutt there,” he said and I chuckled.

“Josie, why are you so chubby?” I mumbled.

“Well if she was awake and if she could talk, she’d tell you about all the bottles she eats like a piglet,” he answered, grabbing a cart.

“She has her Deedee’s appetite,” I teased and he rolled his eyes.

“Right,” he answered and I smiled.

“What kind of ice cream do you want, fat ass?” I asked and he scoffed.

“Hey! You were the one that dragged me to the store to buy ice cream! There’s no reason to insult me!” he exclaimed and I chuckled.

“I’m offering to buy you ice cream. Get over it,” I responded and he pouted.

“You’re mean,” he whined, pushing out his upper lip. “The meanest boyfriend in the world.”

I snorted, pushing the cart towards the freezer section.

“Tell me more about it, babe,” I said, turning and seeing him looking at me big puppy dog eyes. “No! Don’t do that!”

He looked down and I groaned, stopping. I grabbed his face, lifting his chin and kissing his pouting lips.

“Never teach our daughter to do that. My life will be over,” I said and he giggled, kissing my cheek before stepping forward to push the cart.

“Your life is already doomed for when she starts walking and talking. So enjoy the next, like, ten or eleven months of your life,” he answered and I chuckled.

“She’s already starting to talk,” I said.

“I mean English. Not the alien talk she does now,” he answered and I laughed.

“She has her own little language,” I said and he nodded.

“What kind of ice cream do you want, babe?” he asked and I shrugged.

“I’m still waiting for you to tell me what kind you want,” I told him.

“I didn’t even want ice cream!” he exclaimed and I smirked.

“Yes you do,” I answered. He glared at me and I stared back, waiting patiently.

“Fine. Cookie dough,” he answered after a few minutes and I grinned, reaching out to grab his favorite ice cream.

“I know you oh so well,” I teased and he rolled his eyes.

“Creep,” he answered and I smirked.

“I just love you so much,” I answered.

“I love you too,” he responded. “Now come on. I wanna get home and put our munchkin to bed. And then eat ice cream, and put you in bed. I have to work in the morning.”

“Okay, except you’re staying up and playing Mario with me all night instead of putting me to bed,” I answered, hearing him scoff as I started walking away.Ugh. I need to get on top of updating this, I know.
