http://turnthepageover.livejournal.com/36869.html I fixed my beanie, sighing to myself. I glanced across the bus, seeing Jack sitting at one of the booths in the kitchenette. He was staring out the window, a sad look crossing his face as he check his phone once again. I guess it was kind of comforting to know I wasn’t the only one wallowing in heartbreak.
I drummed my fingers on the thigh of my jeans, feeling the pull of the bus moving under us.
“Matt, how much longer until we get to... wherever the hell it is we’re going?” I asked Flyzik as he typed on his laptop. He looked up at me, rolling the lip ring in between his teeth.
“Um, like another hour, I believe,” he answered, and I groaned.
“I just wanna be off this bus already. I’m going nuts,” I whined, standing up. I walked back towards the bunks, grabbing my phone off the charger. I walked back out into the lounge, passing Jack on the way through. He didn’t say anything, just brushed past me. I glanced at him, frowning as I walked to the couch. Rian looked up at me, setting his phone down in front of him and watching Flyzik stand up and walk back to the bunks.
“You two are eventually gonna have to talk this out,” Rian said, looking at me and I raised an eyebrow.
“Huh?” I asked and he rolled his eyes.
“You and Jack,” he responded. “You’re miserable without him, and he’s miserable without ‘Aly’.”
He did air quotes when he said Aly and I raised an eyebrow.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I questioned.
“It means you two are perfect for each other. And you need to find a way to show Jack that ‘Aly’ never existed,” he answered and I gave him a smile.
“How did you know?” I asked. “Wait, Cassadee told you, didn’t she?”
“Alex, Cass didn’t have to tell me,” he said. “We’ve been roommates for three years. I know all the little weird habits you have.”
“Really? Creep,” I said, chuckling and he rolled his eyes.
“Yeah. And at first I thought it was a bit strange that Aly showed up right as you ‘went missing’. And that she was so willing to sleep in your bedroom. And that she didn’t bring any clothes with her at all, so Cass had to use my credit card to go out and blow a whole shit ton of money at Victoria’s Secret.”
I laughed and he shook his head.
“Did she at least buy you stuff to apologize?” I asked and he nodded.
“She got herself sexy lingerie. And bought a candle for the bedroom. And some Starbucks,” he answered and I laughed.
“Awh. Mood setting light and dress, and then coffee to keep you going all night long. What a smart girl,” I said and he chuckled.
“Yeah, she’s something,” he answered.
“I can’t imagine that’s how you figured out I was Aly though,” I said and he shook his head.
“No. It was your habits. Like the random trips to Taco Bell at odd hours. Or the bowl of cereal you would eat for a midnight snack. Singing Blink-182 and Third Eye Blind in the shower. Playing with your hair when you’re tired. The cup of noodles in the afternoon. Spacing out for minutes at a time. Falling asleep with your laptop laying on the bed next to your face. Leaving random articles of clothing around the house. Drinking red wine like it’s going of style. Playing with your fingers when you’re waiting for something,” he listed, taking a deep breath. “Do you need me to continue?”
“No. But apparently I need to move out because you watch me way too much,” I said and he laughed.
“Shut up, Alex,” he answered and I smiled.
“So why didn’t you sell me out?”
“Well it’s not like I could just be like, ‘Hey, Jack! You’re girlfriend is really Alex!’ I can only imagine how that would turn out,” he said and I cringed.
“The same way it turned out when I tried to tell him,” I said. “Not very well, let’s just say.”
“Exactly. That’s why I didn’t even try,” he told me. “Anyway, Jack was so happy. And I know you were... happier than you had been in a while.”
“Well, I wasn’t ecstatic about being a girl. But I was happy about being with Jack,” I said and he nodded.
“I know. And now you’re both walking around her looking like kicked puppies, and I hate it. That’s why you need to talk to him. And you need to get back together,” he said and I snorted.
“Rian, I’ve tried talking to him. He’s barely said two words to me since last week. And he’s barely even looked at me since the tour started three days ago,” I told him.
“He’s not talking to anyone, Lex. I’ve never seen him this upset. He was so in love with you,” Rian said and I rolled my eyes.
“He was in love with Aly,” I answered.
“You are Aly,” he responded and I sighed.
“Jack doesn’t believe that,” I told him.
“Look, Alex. I don’t really care what it takes, but we need to convince Jack that he’s in love with you and that Aly doesn’t exist. I can’t stand seeing him so upset, and everyone notices it. He’s not himself,” he said and I raised an eyebrow. “And well, neither are you. But you’re better at hiding it”
“True,” I said, sighing. “I don’t know what I can do, Rian. He really doesn’t believe me. And I can’t say I really blame him, because it sounds fucking psychotic.”
“I know, but we have to figure something out.”
“We will. Even if we have to convince Matt and have him help us come up with a plan,” I said and Rian laughed.
“Matt’s not as stubborn as Jack though. He might actually believe you,” Rian said.
“Believe what?” I heard Matt say, and I turned around to see him walking back in from the bunks.
“I somehow got transformed into a girl, Jack and I fell in love, and then I turned back into a boy,” I said and he shrugged.
“Stranger things have happened,” he answered. “And I’ve learned to accept a lot of things that don’t make sense since I started working with you.”
I laughed, grinning at them.
“It’s good to know I have you two on my side, then. Now I just have to convince the person that counts the most,” I answered.
“We got your back, bro.”
