"I'm so freaking tired, Josie," I sang to her, sliding the diaper under her butt. I grabbed the baby powder, shaking it onto her. "We need to work on sleeping all night, okay, baby girl? Daddy can't deal with this whole 'four hours of sleep every night' thing."

"Ooh," she cooed and I raised an eyebrow.

"Was that your way of saying deal? Or, 'shut the fuck up, Dad, I'll do what I want'?"

She smiled at me, big brown eyes alight.

I laughed, fastening the straps on her diaper. "Judging by that smile and the fact that you're my daughter, I'm going with the second one. And if that's the case, this means war, fat girl."

I put a onesie on her, picking her up and tickling her chubby thigh. She cooed, smiling again and I grinned. Her smile was my new favorite thing in the world.

"Are you hungry?" I asked her, grabbing a bottle. "Of course. That's a stupid question. You're always hungry."

I made her a bottle, swaying with her while I looked outside.

"It's snowing, Josie," I said, watching the white snowflakes fall. "Look."

I held her up, showing her the window. She stared out the window for a second before an annoyed looked crossed her face. Which was probably because I had walked away from her bottle.

"Next year when you're bigger we'll go out and play in the snow," I told her, turning around and grabbing her warm bottle, checking it on my wrist. "It'll be so much fun."

I walked back into the living room, turning on Spongebob and popping the bottle into Josie's mouth.

"What are we gonna do for the afternoon all by ourselves?" I asked her and she stared up at me.

Jack had a doctor's appointment, which his mom had taken him to. He had mentioned going to the mall after they were done and doing some window shopping for Christmas, even though it was still over a month away. I think Jack was just extremely excited to get Josie presents for her first Christmas.

"Well I have homework that needs to get done eventually, so hopefully you'll work with me on that," I told her and she blinked. "Okay, I'm not sure what that meant, but I hope it was good."

She looked away from me, looking around the room curiously. I watched her, smiling. She was so damn cute.

After she was done eating I sat her up on my knee. I patted and rubbed her back, careful to support her head and waited for her to burp. I chuckled when she did, laying her on the couch next to me.

"Josie," I grinned, blowing a raspberry on her chubby leg. She squealed and I laughed, kissing her face. "Hi, cutie pie."

She reached her hands out, trying to grab a hold of my hair. I tilted my head forward, shaking my shaggy hair over her face. She squealed again, cooing and grabbing a hold of handfuls of the dark strands. She tugged on it and I laughed, kissing her belly. She pulled a little tighter and I hissed from the pain.

"Ow- ow! Okay. Let go of Daddy's hair!" I grabbed her little fists, gently prying her fingers away from my hair. "Don't pull hair, mama. That hurts."

I kissed her nose and she blinked, cooing at me.

"You're so talkative. I wish I knew what you were trying to say," I told her.

"Ah!" she yelled and I raised an eyebrow.

"Oh yeah? Tell me more," I said, giggling as she reached out for my nose. I kissed her fingers and she smiled, kicking her feet.

I yawned, closing my eyes and laying my head down next to the baby. I opened my eyes after a minute, seeing her looking at the ceiling. I sat up, tickling her belly before picking her up and laying her on the floor.

"Tummy time! Get pissed!" I chuckled, hearing her snort as son as I set her down. "I'll be right back, Josie."

I walked back into our room, picking my bag up off the floor and carrying it back to the living room with me. Josie had lifted her head up and was looking before her as she pushed on the ground. In the blink of an eye she rolled over, lying on her back.

"Josie!" I exclaimed excitedly. "You rolled over!"

I picked my phone up off the table, texting the news to Jack.

"Look at you, big girl!" I said happily, picking her up. "I'm so proud of you!"

I kissed her face and she stared back at me, disgruntled.

"You can be as angry as you want that I made you do tummy time, but I'm still super proud of you, baby," I told her, grinning. I stood up, walking over to the swing. "Here. You can swing while I do my homework."

I laid her in the swing, turning it on just the way she liked it.

I walked away, sitting down on the couch and opening my bag. I turned the book to the right page, beginning to read.

I got about a page and a half done before Josie began to whine. I looked up at her staring at me with a pout.

"Josie, you're fine," I answered, trying to go back to my reading. She whined again and I looked up, seeing her bottom lip jutting out in a pout. I frowned, reminding myself I had to have this section read and the problems finished by tomorrow.

But Josie knew I was trying to ignore her, so she kicked it up an octave, letting out a cry.

"Josie," I said, not looking up. "I promise you, you're perfectly fine."

She let out a wail and I looked up, sighing as I watched fat tears roll from her eyes. I didn't have to the power to just listen to my baby cry, so I stood up, stopping the swing and picking her up.

"Sh, you spoiled little monster," I soothed, rocking her and nuzzling her face as she slowly stopped crying. I sighed, looking down at her. "I can't hold you all day. I have homework to do."

I laid her down on the couch next to me, picking my book back up. Josie snorted, kicking her feet at me.

"Jo-Jo, I gotta do this. Stop," I sighed, looking down at her. She looked up at me with teary eyes and I bit my lip. "I don't know what you want me to do, baby."

I looked down at her, sighing and rubbing her belly.

"I know you love being talked to... Wait, I know. I'll read to you." I opened my book back up, beginning to read the paragraph out loud to her.

Once I finished the section I looked down, seeing Josie was asleep next to me. I smiled at my baby girl, running my fingers over her hair gently.

"Hey, babe," Jack greeted as he came in the door, following his mom.

"Hey," I said, looking up at him as he walked over to kiss me. "Wat took so long? Is everything alright?"

"Yeah, everything's fine," he answered, sitting down with me. "We just took a little bit longer at the store than we expected."

"Find anything good?" I asked and he bit his lip.

"Well, I may have found a job..." he answered and my eyes widened.

"A job?" I questioned and he nodded.

"I have an interview on Monday," he answered and I blinked.

'Th-that's awesome," I said and he bit his lip.

"It doesn't sound too awesome," he said, frowning.

"It is! I just didn't know you were looking for a job. I'm surprised is all," I answered.

"I wasn't really... I've just been thinking about it for a while. It'll give me a way to get out of the house for a little bit. And we'll have some extra money to spend at Christmas," he answered and I nodded.

"That's great," I answered and he sighed.

"What's wrong, Alex? You don't want me to take this job?" he asked and I shook my head.

"I want you to do whatever makes you happy, babe," I told him.

"Then why do you look so put out that I have a job interview? Jack asked and I sighed.

"I'm not, babe. I'm happy for you," I told him and he gave me a look. "Jack, I just- I'm supposed to support you and Josie. And I don't even have a job yet. I don't want you to feel obligated-"

"Alex," Jack shook his head. "I'm doing this because I want to. And you are supporting us. You're getting a degree to make something of yourself, and then you'll have a career. But I don't have your opportunities. I didn't get the grades you did, or a scholarship. I'm qualified enough to work in a clothing store, and that's good enough for me right now."

"Jack, I didn't mean to-"

"You didn't, Lex. I understand," he told me and I sighed. "Just cross your fingers I get the job.

"I'm an asshole," I mumbled and he shook his head.

"You just wanna take care of your family," he said, tilting my chin and kissing me. "What did you and Josie do today?"

"We had nice, long conversations," I told him and he chuckled. "Then she refused to let me do my homework. And she rolled over."

"I saw," he said, smiling down at her. "She's getting so big already. I feel like just yesterday she was moving around in my belly, beating the shit out of me."

I laughed, running my hand over her sleeping face.

"I hate it and love it at the same time," I said and he nodded.

"I know. Me too," he said. "I want her to stay a baby forever, but I want to hear her talk and giggle. And see her crawl and walk and run around."

"This child is going to be the death of me," I said and Jack nodded, laughing.

"I don't what we're gonna do with her, but it will be an interesting ride."Alex is so cute with Josie. So so so so cute <3
