"Tummy time!" I told Josie and she looked back at me grumpily. "Shove it, little girl. I know you don't like it, but you'll thank me one day when you aren't that girl in kindergarten unable to hold her own head up. And your head will be a ton bigger then."

I laid the six-week-old on the blanket on the floor, sitting down in front of her. She grunted, face turned to the side so it wouldn't be shoved into the floor.

"Come on, Princess! You can do it. Just look at Deedee," I told her, touching her little fingers.

She let out a frustrated sound, wiggling her hands on the carpet.

"Don't get mad, Jo," I told her, rubbing her back. "You can do it, baby. I know you can."

It took a few minutes of her grunting and whining, and almost crying, before she lifted her head. She looked up at me, blinking, and I grinned, clapping. It only lasted about fifteen seconds before her head began to sway and she laid it back down.

"See, Josie! I knew you could do it!" I exclaimed, picking her up. "I'm so proud of you, baby."

She cooed and I smiled, kissing her. I laid her back down on the blanket, on her back this time. I played with her feet, looking down at her.

"It's your first Halloween, Josie," I told her smiling. "You get to dress up in your costume and get candy." She stared up at me and I chuckled. "Actually, I think that will be next year. But you can still get dressed up."

I glanced over as I heard someone walking in the room. I saw my mom sitting down on the couch, smiling at me.

"Guess whose uncle is coming into the town today," she said, and I furrowed my eyebrows.

"What's the occasion? That's a long trip for nothing," I said and she chuckled.

"Not your uncle, Jack," she said. "Josie's."

"Joe's coming tonight?" I asked.

"In a few hours, actually," she answered.

"Sweet," I answered, looking down at Josie. "Uncle Joe's coming to see you. And it's really weird calling him an uncle. Damn."

"I know," she said. "He said the same thing about you being a dad."

"Oh, believe me, I know," I told her, making a silly face at Josie. "You get to meet Uncle Joe, sweet face."

Mom smiled at me, picking the blanket up from next to her and folding it.

"So what are you doing tonight?" she asked and I shrugged.

"I think we were planning on running Josie over to Rian and Zack's houses. Their moms wanted to see Josie in her costume," I told her, fixing Josie's sock.

"Of course. I want pictures when she puts it on," she told me and I nodded.

"You'll get some," I promised, checking the time. "Are you hungry, munchkin? It's almost time for your bottle."

I slid Josie over so she was looking up at one of her toys. She stared at the bright colored shapes hanging from it. I stood up, walking towards the kitchen.

"Do you want anything to eat, Mom?" I asked, opening the cupboard.

"No, Jack. I'm okay," she answered.

"Alright," I called back, closing the cupboard. I grabbed an orange from the basket, setting it down on the counter. I made Josie a bottle, putting it in the bottle warmer as I picked my orange back up to unpeel it. Once I was finished I put my orange slices in a bowl, grabbing Josie's bottle and walking back out to the living room.

I smiled down at my baby, seeing her reach her hand forward as she cooed at the shapes hanging above her. I set the bowl and bottle down on the table, bending down to pick her up.

She looked at me as I picked her up and kissed her cheek gently. I sat down on the couch, cradling her as I situated my stuff. I set the bowl down next to me on the couch. I grabbed the spit rag, resting it under her chin and picking up her bottle. I popped the bottle in her mouth, holding it carefully. I picked up a piece of orange and ate it.

"Daddy will be home soon," I said, using the spit rag to wipe away the milk that was dribbling down her chin.

I looked up, seeing my mom smiling at us. I gave her a smile, grabbing another orange slice from the bowl.

"It's just so cute, watching you with your daughter," she told me. "You don't understand how precious it is to see my baby with his baby."

I laughed, rubbing my hand over Josie's tiny foot.

"My baby's just precious all over," I told her and she smiled.

"So is mine," she responded, kissing my forehead as she stood up. I smiled at her, watching her walk towards the stairs.

"When you wake up from your nap," I started, looking at Josie and seeing her eyes becoming heavy. "Daddy will be home and we'll go see Uncle Zack."

She stared up at me sleepily and I grinned, kissing her forehead gently. I popped another piece of orange into my mouth and watched the cartoon that was playing on TV.

When I looked down again, Josie's eyes were closed and she had stopped sucking on the bottle. I smiled, breaking the bottle away from her and setting it down on the table. I gently wiped her mouth off before tossing the rag away. Careful not to wake Josie, I adjusted my body so I was laying back on the couch. I covered Josie with her blanket before cuddling her to my chest, nuzzling my nose into her hair and kissing the top of her head lovingly.

"You're a grumpy bear," Alex said as Josie made an annoyed face at him when he put her hood up.

I chuckled, taking her picture. She tore her glare away from Alex, setting her eyes on me.

"Oh, you're gonna give me dirty looks now?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "You look just like your father."

Alex flicked his fringe out of his eyes, glaring at me.

"See, that's exactly what I'm talking about. You guys are twins," I told him and he looked down at Josie, sticking his tongue out. Josie stared back at him, babbling something incoherent. "You tell him, baby."

Alex laughed, rolling his eyes. He picked the baby up, growling at her like a bear and causing her to make a loud noise in return.

"Yeah, yeah, we're gonna go see Meme. Chill out," Alex told her, carrying her out of the bedroom. I rolled my eyes at my boyfriend, picking up the diaper bag and following his trial out the door.

"Oh, look at how adorable!" Mom exclaimed as we walked into the room. I smiled, watching her grab Josie from Alex's arms. "May, get the camera!"

I handed the camera to May before walking over to the couch, sitting down and watching her and mom fuss over Josie. Alex laid his hand on my knee and I rested my head on his shoulder.

"What time is Joe coming in, Mom?" I asked, feeling Alex stroke my knee soothingly. "I thought you said he'd be here by now."

"He got off to a later start than he anticipated," she said, snapping a picture of Josie. "He'll be in tonight."

"Alright," I answered, laying my head back and looking up at Alex. "You ready to get going?"

"Yeah," he answered and I stood up.

"I'm stealing your bear," I told my mom, picking Josie up from the couch.

"Wait! Family picture!" she ordered and I rolled my eyes, glancing at Alex.

He stood up, putting his hand on my side as I cradled Josie in between us.

We posed for a few pictures to make my mom happy. After we were done, I strapped Josie in her carrier and covered her with a blanket.

"You should come with us. It's gonna be a lot of fun," Zack told me, and I frowned, watching him play with Josie.

"I don't know," I mumbled and Zack looked up at me.

"You know you want to, Jack. You haven't been out with us in forever," he said and I sighed.

"I have Josie to take care of," I told him. "I would have to make sure I have someone to watch her."

"Ask May," he said, and I bit my lip.

"I'll talk to Alex first," I told him and he nodded.

I stood up, walking out to the kitchen where Alex and Rian were sitting. I grabbed Alex's hand as I sat down and he looked up at me, giving me a questioning look.

"Zack wants us to go to a party with him tonight," I said quietly, and Alex nodded.

"So does Rian. He just asked me," he told me.

"Do you wanna go?" I asked him and he shrugged.

"Do you? I'll do whatever you wanna do, babe," he told me and I frowned.

"I don't know," I answered. "I mean, it sounds fun, but I've never left Josie with anyone before."

"She won't be with just anyone. You know May will watch her," he told me.

"I know," I muttered, sighing.

"Hey," Alex said, putting his other hand on my knee. "You don't need to feel guilty for wanting to go out and have fun."

"Yeah," I said, looking up into his eyes. "Okay, we'll go."

"You sure?" he asked and I nodded, seeing him give me a small smile.

"Alright, I put the bassinet in your room," I heard Alex say to May as I rocked Josie gently as she finished her bottle. "Baby is finishing her bottle and will probably fall asleep soon."

"I live here, guys," May said, chuckling. "I know the routine."

"I know," Alex said, laughing.

"She'll be fine," May told him, glancing over at me. "I promise I'll take good care of my niece."

"We know that," Alex said, setting his hand on the back of the rocking chair as I stopped rocking. "You ready to go, babe?"

I bit my lip, looking down at Josie who was staring up at me sleepily.

"Can I just finish rocking her? She's almost asleep," I said, caressing her face.

"Of course," Alex answered and I started to rock her again gently.

Her heavy brown eyes closed slowly and I kissed her cheek softly.

"I love you, baby girl," I said quietly, chewing on my lip and feeling Alex put his hand on my shoulder.

"You good, baby?" he asked, and I nodded, standing up carefully. I moved over, reluctantly giving Josie to May. She gave me a soothing smile, holding Josie close to her.

"Bye, baby," Alex muttered, leaning down to kiss Josie's forehead. "Bye, May. Call us if you need anything."

"I will," she answered. "Bye, guys. Have fun."

I gave her a half-hearted wave as Alex slipped his hand into mine.

He turned me quickly when we got outside, pressing me against the side of the car. He put his hand on both sides of my face, smiling at me sympathetically.

"Cheer up, baby," he said, and I blinked quickly, trying to get rid of the water welling up in my eyes. "Awh, Jack!"

I looked away and I felt him wrap his arm around me.

"It's okay, babe," he muttered, pressing his lips to my ear.

"It's stupid," I mumbled and he shook his head.

"It's not," he answered. "It's a normal feeling. I feel it all the time. Not to mention it's fucking adorable."

"Let's just go," I told him and he grabbed my face again.

"Hey, I love you and our daughter, and I'm proud of that. Don't be embarrassed about missing our baby," he told me. "It just shows how much you love her."

I smiled at him and he smiled back, kissing me lovingly.

"Now come on," he said, grabbing my hand. "Let's go have some fun."
