Wha?! This does sound like Inuyasha (goes to check out MAL for more info) ...
Early 90's and it does sound a lot like IY and so it goes on my to watch list! Thanks for the rec \o/

I watched a few random episode long ago and I'm rewatching it now. It really does share a lot of similarities with Inuyasha.
