I only had a handful of characters I made myself. More storyline characters join your party as the game progresses. I like to use them since they can learn all the regular abilities plus have special unique character abilities too.

Disgaea 2 is actually my least favorite in the series. It feels weird having "good guys" as the main characters in a Disgaea game.

I've only played those 2 games. It doesn't feel the same without Laharl, though Adell is cool, Laharl is funnier. I don't really consider the main characters of D1 to be the "bad guys". From the story I only have Adell, Rozalin and Tink so far, but I prefer the human since they can throw so I haven't been using Tink.

Well the long running joke within the Disgaea series is that "bad is good"...you know..since they're demons and all. Like in Disgaea 3 there's a school theme and the "delinquents" are the ones who actually show up for class and do community work. With Disgaea 2 he's actually...good. And human. Which is no fun.

I think I benched Tink too.

good bad still feels too similar to good good to me so it's not that much of a difference. XD I have already trained my characters so by the time I got Hanako I already had a team set up and didn't change it.

Disgaea 2 is definitely more friendlier than Disgaea 1's gameplay, no doubt. The DLC and new features is also a huge plus, and it's a lot easier to level grind. Personally, aside from some DLC characters, Adell and Rozzy, I never used any other story character for the Story Mode of the game.

*rant time* Contrary to popular opinion, I've only seen to care about Disgaea 2's characters, especially more over Disgaea 1's. Adell and Rozalin just feel more, well, alive to me. They don't need to have exaggerated anime personalities to make them likable. They make the story serious when it needs to be. And I'm honestly sick of them being bashed for not being "zany" like the other cast members, when we already have enough of those. Unpopularity might be a good thing though; had they made more cameo appearances like Disgaea 1's trio, I probably would be sick of them as well.

For plot I'm not sure - I think both games have weak spots here and there.

I didn't get any DLC before starting though the game warned me I couldn't add it to the save file later. ^^;;

I prefer characters that are... "characters" Rozalin and Adell are more balanced and less extreme so they don't feel as amusing as the others. They feel too "human" and I find realistic qualities to be too ordinary. It's like, I see enough generic people in real life, for fiction, give me someone with a "theme" to them. I miss Laharl's stubbornness and Flonne's fangirl moments. This doesn't mean I dislike Adell and Rozalin, I think they're cool, though they don't feel really memorable, just some good characters that I'll probably forget about after I'm done with the game's main story. It looks like Etna will make an appearance sometime soon. Though Laharl and Flonne are my favorites, Etna is okay and I'm looking forward to seeing her role in this story.
