dangers of reflection

Things have been becoming clear to me lately, in long dreams and times like when my mom told me I could always adopt if I don't want to have a baby (poor mom; she's been waiting for twenty years now for me to give her some grandkids).

I learned a number of things in University. One was that ideas come from people: specific people, in a specific place, at a specific time. Before that I thought that ideas came from books. Sort of like thinking that food comes from the store.
Compassion for people is closely related to compassion for yourself. When you are eaten by a bear you don't blame the bear.
Which of course brings up the old story of the man running from the bear. The bear is gaining on him. The man trips and falls. As he falls he lets out a brief prayer to God. Please God, make this bear a Christian. To his amazement the bear stops and kneels, and he can hear the bear saying, "For what we are about to receive, dear Lord, . . . ."

"Being eaten by a bear is really not a bad way to go. Much better than slow death by office work."
Ha! I'm going to use that one on the co-workers when we go to the Bay this summer.
