Summary: Ryo wants to go to Ueda's play but only 2 days are left, what will he do? Part 3, the last part

***NOTE: This is my first fan fic, please be kind.  Sorry it took so long, sorry this is long, but it reads pretty quickly. Italics indicate thoughts or titles.  Towards the end, there's a part where it is an Ueda and Ryo perspective.  Please note that or else you'll get lost.  With that said, thank you for reading ^_^

‘click’ the lights began to slowly dim on the stage when a sudden roar of applause echoed in the hall. The play was over. It had left the audience in complete awe. Women and men who watched the play gave the cast a standing ovation even before the curtains opened up again. Both fresh tears and traces of dried ones on each audience members faces were visible from the hint of light that had shown onto the stage and reflected out to the audience. It was a success. It was breathtaking. It was brilliant, Ryo thought and he wasn’t the only one. Murmurs overwhelmed Ryo’s ears as he heard nothing but extols for the actors, especially for Tatsuya.

“WOW,” Tacchon whispered into Ryo’s left ear, “… that was great! I didn’t know Ueda could act like that. He never showed any interest for acting, ne? I wonder why not, he’s really good.”

And in the other ear, Taichi-senpai muttered, “How’d you like it Ryo-chan? It was good, right?”

Ryo just couldn’t make a sound. There were no words he could express that would convey the feelings he had about the play. He just stood there, still clapping and still in awe of the whole production. The cast worked wonderfully with one another. All the actors worked and performed with great poise and dexterity. Tatsuya, his hime, his love, especially; he was just brilliant. Even though he was jealous of the chemistry that illuminated between Tatsuya and Ryoko, he was proud and happy that they conveyed such heart-felt performances to the crowd. One could only wonder why they had not fallen in love with each other, or maybe they already did.

“Ryo! Ryo!” Taichi-senpai called out to Ryo, hinting for Ryo to sit down, as he was the only one still standing. ‘click’ one large spotlight lit the stage before Ryo could properly sit down in his seat, but in the middle of the spotlight his eyes gazed upon the lead actor of the play.

“Minna-san, did you enjoy the play? Was I any good, were we any good?” Ueda asked the audience.

A round of roaring applause echoed the hall once again. Ueda smiled brightly seeing as he was very thankful for the audience’s support. “Today, there have been many surprise guests who have shown up in the audience. Many to support me, and many to support the other cast members, but in all, to support each and every individual who put a lot of hard work and effort into making this play a success. On behalf of everyone, thank you very much for all your support and kindness.” Ueda properly bowed to the audience in thanks and appreciation. When he had begun to lift his head, he remembered that he had yet to introduce those who had come to watch and support him. He looked out to his right to find his senpais.

“Ahhh, there they are. May I introduce you all?” Ueda asked looking for a signal in the darkness of the audience, for just a slight nod from his guests.

Nakai-senpai and Taichi-senpai both nodded their heads and before they knew it, a spotlight had shown on all four of them. ‘click’

“Thank you very much to the four of you who came to watch me in this play; how was it, any good?” Ueda looked out into the crowd waiting for a response. Taichi-senpai and Nakai-senpai nodded vigorously. “That’s why I chose you to be in my upcoming drama,” Nakai-senpai teased. He along with the rest of the audience members who heard him chuckled in a positive way, to give Ueda his recognition.

Before Ryo knew it, Ueda spoke directly to him and Tacchon, “How was it Ryo-chan, Tacchon? Did you end up liking it?” Ryo was so nervous, he didn’t know what to say or do, he just smiled but Tacchon replied back and said it was great.

Ueda teased Ryo from the stage, “Well I didn’t really expect much conversation from Ryo-chan, but in any case thank you all for being here today. Tomorrow is our last day, we will put in all our efforts to end this play with positive reactions. Have a safe trip home and please continue to support all the actors who showed great effort on this stage.” Ueda took his last bow and quickly walked up the staircase that denoted walking towards the heavens during the play.

Ryo was still in shock, but so were the audience members. Large murmurs emerged from around him, “Ehhh, why is Nishikido here? I didn’t know he and Ueda were friends.” Those were the common retorts Ryo heard from the audience. As the audience members were signaled to leave their seats, Ryo still in a daze, was nudged by Taichi-senpai, hinting that it was time for them to spew from their seats and out into the back; the back where they would meet up with Ueda.

-

Backstage, was hectic, many people were running around recovering costumes from the actors and fixing and settling the props from the stage. Loud voices calling out to make signals, bodies packed together in the small halls, everything was what a backstage should look like after a play was over.

As they walked towards Ueda’s dressing room, Ryo’s heart pounded faster and faster; he was in a complete daze, it felt like he was unaware of his surroundings. But as he was nearing Ueda’s dressing room, he realized that he had been separated from Tacchon and his senpais. He looked around but couldn’t find them at all. Through all the chaos and his spacing out moments, he lost them. So, he began to walk towards Ueda’s dressing room thinking that everyone had made their way there.

Ryo knocked on the door before placing his hands on the knob, “Excuse me,” he said before entering the room.

When he walked in he was completely shocked and embarrassed. Not only were Tacchon and his senpais not in the room but Ueda was shirtless and in the middle of putting his pants on. Ryo looked at Ueda with a blush on his face, but turned away before Ueda could notice.

“Sorry, sorry, I didn’t know you were in the middle of getting dressed.” Ryo stated as he looked down on the floor, a slight red color flushed his cheeks.

However, Ueda was a bit perplexed by it all. Why had Ryo shied away, he knew that they were men, but it was nothing that both of them were not use to already. They were both in idol groups anyways and they had worked together during their younger years for Shounen Club and Dream Boys, what was the big deal, Ueda thought.

“Ummm, it’s fine. You can look now, I’m completely dressed.”

Ryo turned around and saw Ueda in his blue jeans, black belt and white shirt. He was just barely putting on his boots when the rest of Ryo’s companions walked in.

“Ueda that was great” Taichi-senpai called out. “Yeah, you were really good, Ueda,” Tacchon affirmed. “Tomorrow is you last day, right? The taping for the drama will be starting soon. Make you get lots of rest. Now that you’ll be having a packed schedule, make sure you eat right and rest plenty” Nakai-senpai said out loud.

That was right; it was going to be a busy schedule for Ueda. He was going to be filming for Konkatsu! with Nakai-senpai and he, along with the rest of the members of KAT-TUN, would be going on tour, spending 8 consecutive days in Tokyo Dome plus extra concert dates proceeding after that.

Ueda smiled at everyone and said thank you but for some reason, Ueda couldn’t help keep in his curiosity towards Ryo’s attendance. So he just blurted it out without hesitation, “Ryo, why’d you come and watch the play,” Ueda commented. The rest of the men just stared at Ryo and well, Ryo was in disbelief that Ueda had called him out in front of their senpais and his band mate.

“Don’t worry, I just came to watch the play. I heard it was good. Plus, that Ryoko girl is pretty cute.” Yes, those were the words that came out of Ryo’s mouth. No actual praise and a bit aloofly said.

Ryo couldn’t believe the words that just came out of his mouth, especially how he said them. He couldn’t see why he just didn’t praise the man for his outstanding performance. He didn’t know why he had to sound so cold and uninterested. But he did, and he couldn’t bare himself to sound any other way. Not when the others were around.

Ueda clicked his tongue, very reminesecnt of the tongue clicking from KAT-TUN’s first number one single, REAL FACE.

“Ahhh,” Taichi-senpai interrupted the growing dense atmosphere between Ueda and Ryo, “… why don’t we all get something to drink. Nakai-senpai will treat.”

“Ehhh, chotto matte, when did I say I was going out to treat all of you,” Nakai-senpai said smiling and surprised.

The men just laughed, except for Ryo.

Because Ryo felt defeated and thought that he wouldn’t be able to face Ueda without sounding cruel and disrespectful, he interrupted the happy air and said, “I think I’ll just go. After the play, I feel like getting some rest.  Tacchon will pay for the drinks and dinner, he owes me money anyways.” Ryo looked at Tacchon directly and said, “Treat them out and we can call it even.”

With that, Ryo bowed his head and made his way out of the room. As Ryo made his way out of the hall and into the cool night, Ryo shook his head in disappointment. As he found himself in the middle of the streets, he turned back to look at the hall. To look at the arena he had secretly showed his support for Ueda and insulted him at the same time.

-

“Thank you for your patronage,” the shop worker shouted out to Ueda and his companions.

“Thank you Tacchon, senpais, for today. I had a lot of fun” Ueda bowed and smiled.

“No problem. Let’s go out to eat again, it will be Tacchon’s treat.” The men all laughed and slowly they began to part ways and into their cars. But before Ueda could open his doors, Tacchon ran from behind and said, “Sorry about Ryo today,” Tacchon stood in front of Ueda, scratching his head and a bit embarrassed for having invited Ryo to watch the play. “I swear he sounded more excited about the play when I talked to him last night. I don’t know why he was in such a bad mood. Plus, Nakai-senpai said that when he found Ryo outside the arena, he looked like he was about to pass out from all the running he did to get there. I don’t know why he acted the way he did. He can be rude sometimes, well, all the time, but he means well,” Tacchon bowed his head towards Ueda. Ueda was a bit embarrassed himself that Tacchon even thought about apologizing for Ryo.

“It’s okay, it’s okay. I know Ryo-chan can be a jerk sometimes. Well, all the time. I’m just happy he came and watched the play. Even if it wasn’t to support me, he was able to come and support the other cast members.” With those words, Ueda and Tacchon parted ways.

-

[Ueda perspective]

Ueda had been driving for almost an hour, completely lost. Although he had been to Osaka many times before, he was always in the company of those who were familiar with the surroundings.

“Shit, where the hell am I,” Ueda said out loud, still driving. Apparently, driving in Osaka at night was like a mouse in a maze. Ueda didn’t know where he was and he couldn’t bear it within himself to ask for directions. He was a man after all, and of all the things men were most stubborn about, it was asking for directions. That was a definite NO in all the MAN LAWS.

So Ueda continued to stubbornly drive his car with half a tank full of gas before realizing that it was too late at night to act like a macho man. He had planned on asking for directions but then a familiar figure had caught his eye while looking for an unsuspicious pedestrian. The familiar figure was of a man who was pacing back and forth and in what appeared to look like him talking to himself. Ueda stopped his car and watched the man who was pacing back and forth, just to make sure he was not mistaken, he was sure the figure, and the clothes hanging on the figure was of someone he knew. Moments later, the dim street light exposed the man’s face and what appeared to be his cell phone in his hand. Right there and then, he was sure that the man pacing back and forth and talking to himself was Ryo.

“What the hell,” Ueda said out loud, “… why the hell is he talking to himself.”

Ueda got out of the car, locked it, and began to walk towards Ryo.

“Ummm, Ryo-chan ---”

-

[Ryo perspective]

Ryo had been pacing back and forth for quit sometime now.  He couldn’t really remember how long he had been at it, but it didn’t matter. He was contemplating on calling Tacchon and asking him for Ueda’s number. But he thought that they were probably still out having a good time. What Ryo wanted was to apologize for being so cold towards Ueda and to tell him that he really enjoyed the play. He didn’t want to seem like a jerk, even though that’s how he acted.

Ryo could recall the ‘click’ of the stage lights when the play started, when the play ended, when the light shown on them after the performance, and most importantly when Ueda clicked his tongue at him backstage after the show.

‘click’ ‘click’ ‘click’ ‘click’

Ryo felt apologetic for his actions and words, but it was difficult for him to be nice towards Ueda.  He had always been ‘mean’ to him during Shounen Club and Jin didn’t really hang out with Ueda in private, at least not when he was around, so there were never really chances for them to talk. The fact that Ueda didn’t hang out with any Johnny’s didn’t help either. Ueda was in his own world, and Ueda liked it that way. He was an avid boxer and preferred friends and company not from the Jimusho. He and Ueda just didn’t have much in common, at least not from the surface of things.

As Ryo slowed down his pace, his phone rang and it was Tacchon.

Ryo hesitated to pick it up but decided to anyways.

“Ryo, where are you. I dropped by your place but you weren’t there. What happened to you earlier. You seemed real excited, or at least willing, to go to the show when I talked to you last night, what happened to you?” Tacchon said without any interruptions from Ryo.

“I just didn’t feel good. Plus, it’s not like Ueda was expecting much from me anyways. He probably didn’t want me there.” Ryo replied, a bit defeated and annoyed at the same time.

“That’s not true,” Tacchon said sounding encouraging, “… I just finished having dinner with Ueda and Nakai-senpai and Taichi-senpai. Before Ueda got in his car, I had apologized to him for your actions but he said it was okay. He said he was happy that you ended up coming to the show, even if it wasn’t to support him. He was happy that you were there.”

Those words echoed in Ryo’s head. He was happy that I was there. He thought I wasn’t there to support him. He was happy, actually happy that I was there. Ryo felt like a fool and before he knew the words just came out of his mouth, “Tacchon, can you give me Ueda’s cell phone number, I want to apologize to him tonight. Please give it to me.”

With those words Tacchon complied to Ryo’s request and told him to properly apologize. The two men ended their conversation.

After Ryo had hung up his phone on Tacchon, he was again contemplating on what to say and how to say his apology to Ueda. He didn’t want to make the mistake of sounding insulting, again. He didn’t want Ueda to be disappointed or annoyed by him, again. He just didn’t want to hear or see anything from Ueda unless it was a smile and it’s okay, I forgive you. For what seemed like forever, Ryo kept pacing back and forth, looking at his cell phone and talking to himself out loud, trying to figure out what he really wanted to say to Ueda.

But before he mustered up the courage to make the call a familiar voice called out, “Ummm, Ryo-chan --- ”

-

“Ummm, Ryo-chan,” Ueda called out, “… what the heck are you doing out here talking to yourself. Are you lost?” Ueda made a joke but remembered that he was the one who was lost. He chuckled a bit and a smirk ran across his face.

Before Ryo could turn around and respond, Ryo found the resolution within himself, he was going to apologize, no matter what, and properly too.

Ryo quickly and swiftly turned and bowed his head, “Ueda, I’m so sorry for the way I behaved today. I really wanted to watch your play. I came to support you. It was really good, you were really good. I, I, … I just couldn’t tell you then. I’m really sorry.” Ryo’s head was still in a bowing position, waiting for Ueda to respond.  He was just too embarrassed to lift his head and look into Ueda’s face.

“Hahaha,” Ueda continued to laugh while walking towards the younger man. “What’s up with you Kanjani 8 members, why do you guys always seem to apologize for nothing” Ueda said still laughing.

He placed one of his hands on Ryo’s shoulder and the other on top of his head. “It’s okay, it’s okay, I forgive you,” Ueda said as he patted the young man’s head.

“I don’t know about you Ryo-chan, but I’m amused by all this. What’s been up with you. When I spoke to Tacchon last night he told me you were eager to see the play. When I saw you before the play, you didn’t even say a word. When I asked you how the play was, you just smiled, probably just out of courtesy. And when I asked you why you actually came, you just sounded like a jerk. And now, your standing before me, head bowed with a proper apology. I don’t get it at all.” Ueda said bluntly, “But, I have to apologize as well.”

Before, Ueda could continue, Ryo lifted his head and embraced the man before him.  Ueda was shocked by the embrace but so was Ryo, he didn’t know why he did what he just did, but it didn’t matter, “You don’t need to apologize to me Ueda. I was the one who acted like a jerk. You did a great job and put a lot of effort into your performance, and I couldn’t even tell you how good you were. I’m so sorry.”

Ueda just stood there, still in Ryo’s embrace. He was unsure what to do, was he suppose to embrace the young man back or should he push him away. But before Ueda could come up with a conclusion, his body just reacted to Ryo’s and his arms wrapped around him. Both men stood in the dimly lit park in each others arms, in an embrace that was both shocking and comforting.

“No Ryo, I do have to apologize. I’m sure I made you feel uncomfortable and nervous. I shouldn’t have blurted out my questions. I’m sorry. I really am.” Ueda said this with his soft and sincere voice.  Ryo smiled, Ueda felt Ryo’s facial movement from the side of his face. Ryo was happy, Ueda was unexpectedly content too.

“Ueda,” Ryo whispered, “… I know that you might not understand what’s going on right now, so I’ll make it clear for you. I love you Ueda Tatsuya, I always have.”

Ueda smiled, Ryo felt Ueda’s facial movement from the side of his face. Ueda was happy, and Ryo was happy too.
