Parents are all strange right now and a part of me feels bad for them because they've invested ALOT in their children and they want to see results from THEIR hardwork raising us. We're an expensive generation of kids unfortunately. :P So I understand why parents are REALLY anxious and disappointed right now... not only financially but they don't have anything to show for their hardwork raising us.
I know my parents have kind of lost all hope in me already. :P Luckily they aren't as nasty to me as they were to my sister when she was coming out of college. Man, they were expecting people to just THROW jobs at her cuz she was full IB, high GPA, and all around super intelligent/capable person. I think my sister sort of set a primer as far as what my parents can expect from me out of college. She cushioned my fall pretty much. :P
Eh, just stick it out. That's what we're all doing. Join the club of underacheiving overacheivers. XD
You know, I read something recently about how this generation is having so much trouble b/c they were raised w/ their parents pretty much assuming that if they just got super-educated and concentrated solely on academics/school groups and stuff, they would pretty much fall into the perfect job once they graduated. I know I kind of always felt like that's what would happen to me. In any case, as a result, a lot of this generation didn't hold jobs in high school or college, so they're going out into the work world w/ zero work experience.
It just makes me feel like my head is loaded with a bunch of useless knowledge. =P
Yup. That's our generation. We're good at bullshitting research papers and pulling all nighters to cram for exams but when it comes down to real world experience... we sink like a stone. Its just an odd situation. I can only imagine what our generation is gonna be like 20 years from now. I kind of shudder to think. XD

I'm with Van... I sit at home in my PJs. After working 8 months of wearing professional clothes and heels, living in athletic shorts and t-shirts is one of my only consolations of life post lay-off

And it's not just the first-born thing. I know for my mom it's probably her projecting on me all the things she didn't/couldn't do but wishes she could've. I understand that and I'm glad she wants the best for me, but it doesn't do anything to alleviate the pressure. Talk about having "problems feeling inadequate," I can't imagine anything that would make us feel more that way than our parents constantly badgering us about it
