Check into Crash

One of the fans in my PC case can no longer move under its own power. Something is in the little turbine thing (I just realized I don't know what that area is called) that's causing a lot of friction. Luckily, I had a spare fan to replace it with, with nice red LED lights, but it makes almost double the noise. It's still fairly quiet, but I'd ( Read more... )

yeah, I'm looking more to repair then replace. If I can pull it off and get it to stay back on afterwards, I can probably get out whatever is clogging it (likely a dust bunny).

How much in tuition loans???! kanderson321 October 20 2008, 17:58:52 UTC
Dang!

I'm feeling stressed about the $30K+ in loans I'll have after I graduate next quarter. Almost $110K in loans is INSANE.

Have you looked into something like AmeriCorps? You do low-pay work, but it'll allow you to forgive some of your student loans.

I've considered it briefly, but never put much thought into it. I looked into the PeaceCorps a bit.

I would actually consider joining the military (they'd probably take me now, the bints) if we weren't doing a clusterfuck over in the mid-east. As it stands, I'm thinking about joining the National Guard at some point.

I should look into those options more. I'm not really excited about just getting a job programming, and, if I do ever seek out politics, some sort of military background would be extremely beneficial.

I'm not a big fan of joining the military to further a political career, but hey, that's me (spoken as the daughter, granddaughter and wife of Navy vets). I wouldn't vote for someone merely because he/she's been in the military (Senator McCain is a BIG case-in-point). I will say, however, that if you need discipline, and you want some fairly decent training (as long as you're careful about your rating, and what sort of deal your recruiter arranges for you), it's not a bad way to go.

I wouldn't join the National Guard right now. I have friends on my f-list who are in the National Guard, and they get treated like absolute shit by the VA, and by the military. But again, your mileage may vary, see dealer for details. No warranty is expressed or implied.

I don't think someone should be an elected official just because of military, either. However, it does give experience into more of the government action, and having a better understanding of the military in general is quite a good thing if you ever become a Governor or President, both of which command military forces.
