Support groups for illness-Downsides

Dec 12, 2016 20:55

I'm dealing with what I think is a leak of spinal fluid from a bone spur and slipped disk in my neck. This is not well understood by doctors, I joined a support group to help find a doctor, this is in process and I have the group to thank. However, not a day goes by without the most ridiculous posts. Someone wondered if his toenails being harde to ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear about that. *offers chocolate*

I'm a bit of a hippy, but even I gave that second paragraph the side-eye! 0_o

I thought of sending her some paper imbued with the spirit of my inner goddess, this would save her spirit from being polluted by crass money.

I do hope you will be able to find someone who can help you with all this. It's gone on for entirely too long.

Far too long, I've mounted some assaults against the system. Fed up. If they can't get it sorted soon, I'm just going to move on and get on with my life. Plan to change my direction in 2017.

Oh dear. I have some nice brownies, want some? I'm sure they're full of positive energies. They're made in implements washed in the cristal clear waters of Hampshire, land of the "chalk rivers".

OK, well there is benefit, as you noted, and I hope the doctor you find is a good one for you. As for such "weirdness," I figure that if it helps the person, and doesn't hurt anyone else, what the heck? The mind, after all, is the most powerful healing agent we have, so anything that stokes it up is good, right? It may not work for me, but if it helps them, go for it. I just try not to be negative in those situations, and sometimes it's hard. As for the toenail and nosehair guys, it sounds as though they are obsessing over what they don't fully understand.

The problem with toenail/hair comments is that it detracts from people with life limiting symptoms being taken seriously. There are sadly, people who crave attention and use "illness" to get it. My pet hate is people who are "allergic or intolerant" to various foods, make lots of noise demanding that menu be changed to suit, then suddenly can manage to choke down a few full of gluten donuts after hogging gluten free offerings.

I don't share my negative thoughts, just find them counterproductive.

I'm all for the power of the mind, I'm all in favour if it and use it daily, but try to keep a bit more down to earth.

I.... have my inner goddess imbued in my scarves. She's bitter and twisted and wants to bathe in the blood of those who cross her.
