Snape essay

I just read an interesting essay about Snape.
.

"What is she going to do, have Snape wash his hair and, now that he doesn't have to act so bad, give Harry a big old hug and say, "I knew you could do it, Harry, my lad!"

Much as I dislike Card and much as it pains me to admit it... sadly, I think he's right.

He does make a compelling argument.

There are several very interesting points... There are also several things I really don't agree with (and not just the arguments for Snape's death. Why do people insist that he needs to be nice and sweet? Seriously, someone can be good and intelligent and in possession of an excellent moral compass and still be crabby and cantankerous and acerbic).

My original reply turned so rambly that I preferred making a post in my LJ rather than clogging up your comment page. Thanks so much for posting this link; it was a very interesting read, even for fuelling my argumentative side.

I'm reading your post, very thoughtful. I agree with your point about the mudblood issue, he has taken it too far with such a tiny bit of evidence.

Thank you. The Mudblood issue wouldn't be a huge deal if he hadn't made such a pivotal point of it in the essay. He used it as a hinge of the ambiguity in Snape's character, which I took issue with because the evidence suggests that it isn't.

Ah yes, I read that on harmony_bites journal. Very interesting indeed - I agree with Mr Card on a lot of points.

Very interesting essay. I liked seeing how an accomplished author saw the use of the character in the books and what he thought it meant.
