Your Head Girlship is on probation, says Dumbledore, holding out the failing exam, looking down his nose and spectacles at Minerva-but she can see Tom outside the classroom door, mouthing dirty words at her through the window-I want to fuck you right now-and she tunes Dumbledore out.
It is a difficult month, December. There are exams to slog through, and then she must organize the list of students staying at Hogwarts for the holidays. She is shocked to find Tom’s name on the list, one of six listed under Slytherin, along with Avery, Nott, Malfoy, Black and Flint.
What’s this? she asks. Aren’t you going home?
Home? Tom snorts, and she nods, pressing the issue, and he flies into a rage which can only be appeased with sex, against the wall, her back torn up by the craggy rocks and the torch’s flame flickering dangerously near her hair, and burning her wrist when she throws up her arm with a cry of passion.
What’s this? Dumbledore asks. Aren’t you going to see the nurse?
The nurse? Minerva snorts, and he nods, pressing the issue-You are making a mistake-and Minerva flies into a rage, shouting that he had better start leaving her alone, instead of always asking her too many questions, and prying into her private life. Who do you think you are? she shrieks. You’re my professor, and you’re old, and if I want to fuck Tom Riddle I can!
He puts her in detention, and she marks off the days of December in her calendar with a red-inked quill, flicking the nib decisively across each box, slashing out each date with a cruel X.
