Every place I've ever worked has had a 90 day wait policy. I'm assuming it's because every place I've ever worked has also had a 90 day probation period.

Off the top of my head, I can recall 3 1-year waits, 1 90-day, and 1 30-day. It really seems to run the gamut. All those employers did offer immediate coverage to salaried employees, though, IIRC.

Thanks! One year? Wow. That exempt v. non-exempt part can definitely make a difference.

It's been 90 days at all my jobs except the current one, where it was a week or so.

Shorter is better! I really didn't care much in my 20s, but now I do.

The first of the month after 30 days' employment for one (so, if I started the job on January 3, insurance would kick in on March 1). The first of the month after 90 days' employment for another.

Thanks for the info. "The first of the month after 30 days' employment" - that was the deal where I wrote "one month" above. Thanks for the detail. I started close to the end of the month, so it was a day or two more than a month for the wait.

It depends on the job. Security jobs for instance will have immediate coverage, as will others that have hazardous duty. Everyone else seems to wait at least 30 days.

So, even part-time hourly security get immediate coverage? Seems like a fair deal.

It depends on the company. I think Raytheon covers right away and Securitas might also. Don't know about anyone else, but it won't hurt to give them a call or fill out an application.
