The style looks like a pillowcase dress. There are tons of patterns/tutorials for free online. Let me see if I can find one with good pictures! :)

I've done some fabric dying like that a lot of times before (on solids, not prints). Once my mom gave me a hot pink hoodie & I used a little black dye to gray it out and turn it into a country rose color. Much better. I also used a smidgen of brown dye on some cream colored fabric to get the right shade of light-brown for the applique on that sugar gliders skirt set I did forever ago. Saved me a trip to the far-away fabric store for the right shade.

And you use so little, you can keep the packs of dye around for future projects. I buy Dylon, which you can use with cold water and I hear it bleeds less than Rit. You can pick up a pack at Walmart or the craft store for like $2.
