That's pretty cool that Elena got recognized by the guy she was cosplaying as. Nice!
Love the new stitch. That's a great idea to use fabric marker to fill in a design. Satin stitch would have made it seem so much bulkier! The fabric marker is a good alternative, definitely had not thought of doing that.
I can't even tell you how STOKED she was to be recognized. I'm still happy for her. :)
It's fairly unlikely we'll ever hear from John Green re: our copy of TFiOS. I sent it right before all the press insanity for the movie happened, so I imagine he was already overwhelmed with other things. I can only hope received the books and read the messages inside.
Seriously, twenty years...I remember when 5 felt like sooo many!
Congratulations on your Anniversary! I hope you guys have a good time on your trip!
The IWaV block looks great. I have seen a few fabric marker/embroidery projects out there and it really does add a whole new dimension. I love how the red just made the block pop!
Aw, Elena is so adorable in that video! I love how the panelists were genuinely flattered that they had their own cosplayers.
That is a really cool method - fabric marker plus embroidery. I've seen some very interesting mixed-media embroidery pieces but they always seem WAY too busy: paint, thread, buttons, trim, raffia, whatnot. But your block is beautiful and the design is striking.
I can't even begin to tell you how out of character it is for her to run up like that. She's usually a very reserved person, but of course, fandom does funny things to all of us!
As my art mentor was fond of saying...keep it simple! And then again, when you only have a week to design and stitch, simple is better. ;)

The fabric marker worked so well! I tested it on a scrap piece first, just to make sure and I really like the way it worked out!

I do like the fabric marker combined with stitching idea, that's pretty clever.
20 years...you're practically newlyweds. :) Happy anniversary!

Thanks for the anniversary wishes. We are occasionally asked if we just got married. We're both pretty darn lucky. ;-)

I keep meaning to ask you if you ever heard back from the author of TFioS?

I should do some research on the whole stitching + fabric marker thing. I really enjoyed doing that!
