For a minute, when you were flipping the new granny square blanket around to lift it up, I thought maybe the blocks were staggered and I was thinking that might be fun. Anyway... :) I like the green sashing (it's probably not called sashing when it's in an afghan, I don't know!), I've been in a really green mood lately.

Sounds like you're moving along pretty good with the quilt - it's awesome that it's coming together so well. (And forget whatever you think is wrong with the quilting because I can pretty much guarantee that nobody will notice anything half so much as you do.)

The blocks are staggered! And good on you for figuring that out with only 2 rows. There are six colors, and I kept them in the same order in relation to each other but at the beginning of each row I shfited the one from the end of the previous row to be the first one of the next row. The sashing is a green someone donated at the last meeting. It pretty much matches the green in some of the blocks so I figured it would be nice to tie it all together, and then I have a blue and a yellow someone donated that match really well for borders.

As ofenjen said to me... "it's a quilt, it's ok if you can see thread/stitching". Or something close to that. I started out with invisible thread in the needle but it kept throwing my tension off so I switched to white cotton after the first few rows of quilting.

Invisible thread is pretty much a nightmare in my experience - it just doesn't react the same as regular thread and it's SO hard to figure out what way will make your machine happiest (and then I think the machine is just never happy with it anyway). I find most neutral colours disappear pretty easily anyway into a quilt, almost regardless the colours/prints you're quilting over. (I have had beige over burgundy that I didn't like, though. It seemed to stand out too much, at least compared to the rest of the quilt which was more beige and blended better.)

You can see little jogs where I briefly jumped out of the ditch and in some places you can't see any stitching at all. If it weren't for the autographs I would have gone diagonally through all the squares in straight lines. One of the ladies tried to convince me to do that anyway and I said, no! The messages are a big part of this quilt, so that would kind of defeat the purpose.

I have used invisible thread, but it took me so long to get the tension just right that the "fun factor" for quilting the project went down a couple of notches. I agree with clumsy chord - a neutral color blends in well.

Your quilting is just fine - they will absolutely love it.

Once I switched to my buttonhole foot and the gutermann cotton thread it went pretty smoothly. I need to order a walking foot but it's 50 bucks! So I have been putting it off, but if I plan to do much more quilting it will be worth it so I need to just bite the bullet.

You are getting SO much done! I'm totally jealous!!!

I've been working on my own crochet project, but figuring out that I need to make it bigger than I wanted just kind of took my interest down a bit. *sighs and tries not to be SO anal about things*

You needn't worry about how your stitching looks. It's the small part in a MUCH bigger picture. You are doing AMAZING!!!

I'm trying! It helps to have the Project Room in at least some semblance of order. It's still not ideal but it's definitely improved.

I plan to do something FMQ next... now that I know my feed dogs drop it ought to make that easier... and you are supposed to see that stitching, lol. Easier than a straight line anyway.

Urgh invisible thread. SO cool in theory, not so cool in practice. It's just... so springy. Or stretchy. Whatever it is it's a pain.

Your Get Well Quilt is coming along beautifully, great job!!

I loved the outtakes at the end - haha it's awesome to see others making the same "mistakes" I do (although mine involve a lot more sighing and rolling of the eyes). :D

I didn't have any breakage issues with the invisible thread, which others had warned me about, but the tension thing was driving me insane so I finally gave up! I am going to watch for a sale on the gutermann variegated thread... I love that stuff so much!

I had a heck of a time saying the word February. I had no idea how difficult that was to say when you were actually trying to say it "correctly". :P

Oh, um, yeah I don't think I say it correctly either. *smiles self-consciously* I always get tripped up on the word "library", too. :)

Your get well quilt is looking fabulous! I have not used invisible thread yet, but I keep hearing horror stories and my quilting is a little iffy now, I'd hate to add that in as a factor :)

The afghans look great too. You are going to hit your 12 mark for Linus for sure!

The outtakes cracked me up...I had to start three times today, so I feel your pain (and I said the word "cutted" in my video...where did that come from??).

My outtakes frequently involve the cats... jumping onto the furniture that's holding the camera... scratching at the door, etc. Yesterday I could not say February to save my life.
