Now for my own words:
I participated in the 2012 Birthday Blocks group, and while I did stress a bit about the deadlines and worry about my skills being up to snuff, I learned a lot by having to branch out of my comfort zone. All I'd ever really done block-wise wa
ofenjen #39;s patterns, so it was good to learn a little traditional piecing. I'm torn thinking about this year, because I worry about making the commitment with so much on my plate, but I also worry that WITHOUT the commitment, I'll end up not doing any sewing at all. So I'm leaning toward another year of participation. Heck I think I've already picked my pattern, lol. It's one that has both the traditional piecing instructions and also the paper-pieced pattern, so it can be done either way, because I know some people, like myself, are more comfortable with paper-pieced patterns.
Long story short, I do recommend the experience for someone wanting to try something new, commit to sewing at least a little something over the next year, and maybe learn something while you are at it. Also, you get a bunch of blocks for yourself in the pattern and colors of your choice, and then get to piece your own top or make it as a gift for someone else. So that's kind of cool too
